Albert "Ab" Farrar Obituary

Albert “Ab” Farrar of Cuba, MO, was born on Monday, June 11, 1937, in Steelville, MO to Albert Jewell Farrar and Zelma Elizabeth Halbert Farrar.  He passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, MO, on Monday, January 3, 2022, at the age of 84 years, 6 months, and 23 days.

He grew up in the Steelville area and accepted the Lord as his personal Savior early in life.  He graduated from Steelville High School.  He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably. He married Mae Harris Farrar and to this union one son was born.

Ab lived in Cuba, MO and was a Cuba Police Officer in the late 1970’s. He moved and lived in Lebanon, MO and Springfield, MO for several years.  He worked for a boat manufacturer for a time and had a lawn care business in the Springfield area. During this time he met and married Carole Mann Gardner on October 10, 2004.  After her passing, he wanted to be closer to family and moved back to Cuba about 7 years ago.  He was always active in church and even maintained the grounds at First Baptist of Cuba. He loved hunting, fishing, and cooking. However, his main love was music, singing and playing the guitar.  He played in numerous groups through the years with the most recent being the Gates of Glory Gospel Singers. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Zelma Farrar; wife Carole Mann Gardner Farrar; son Roger Farrar; stepdaughters Linda Hughes and Regina Adams.

Ab is survived by his granddaughters Tiffany (Shane) Switzer and Tabatha (A.J.) Harman both of Cuba, MO; great grandchildren Allison Gaston, Charlet Switzer, Samuel Harman and Maggie Harman all of Cuba, MO; sister Norma Bell of Cuba, MO; step-sons David Metcalf (Betty McWhirter) of Bourbon, MO and Scott Starks of Leasburg, MO; step-granddaughter Mandy Keogh of Sullivan, MO; niece Patty Laney of Cuba, MO; nephews David Gilliam of Fenton, MO, Mike (Bonnie) Bell and Lester Bell both of Cuba, MO; special friends Paul Barber of Bourbon, MO and Betty Basinger of Leasburg, MO; other relatives and many friends.

Visitation was from 10:00 AM— 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, MO.  Memorial Service immediately followed at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jim Moore officiating.  Inurnment was at Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, MO. The family has chosen cremation as his final disposition.
