Albert "Al" Brinkmann, Jr. Obituary

Albert “Al” George Brinkmann, of Cook Station, MO, passed peacefully in his sleep at his home in Cook Station on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 5 days.

Born on Thursday, September 26, 1957, in St. Louis, MO, to Albert George Brinkmann, Sr. and Ruth Eileen Brinkmann of St. Louis, Missouri, he was raised in St. Louis and graduated from St. John’s High School, where he found joy and discipline on the soccer field. He continued his education at UMSL and Northeast Missouri State University. Al first worked at Marquette Tool and Die as a maintenance supervisor. He was a skilled diesel mechanic and crane operator with St. Louis Crane Rental, taking pride not just in the job itself, but in the craftsmanship and knowledge it required.

Al’s greatest pride, however, was his family. He was first married to Rebecca Sue Stephan, with whom he shared two children, Al and Nick. He later married Cynthia “Cindy” Renee Crawford, and together they helped raise Mark and Jacob. He later married Donna Marie Willis on May 21, 2011, in Thayer, Missouri. He immediately connected with her two daughters, Nikki and Julie, and came to love them as his own. Together, they all shared years filled with love and laughter.

Weekends spent at the farm became cherished family traditions, and in 1995, Al made it their permanent home in Cook Station. There, he became a familiar and trusted presence in the community. He was a member of Operator’s Union Local #513 and the NRA, and he embraced the outdoors with passion—hunting, fishing, and appreciating the simple beauty of nature.

In his later years, Al continued to serve others in quieter but equally meaningful ways, working as a handyman and as a bus driver for Green’s Canoe Rental and Bird’s Nest Lodge. No matter the role, he approached it with the same generosity and willingness to help. Al had a gift for fixing things—whether it was machinery or lending a hand to someone in need—and he never expected anything in return. Faith was a cornerstone of Al’s life. He was raised in the Catholic faith and later found a home in non-denominational churches, including Rivers of Life, Canaan Community Church, and Thayer Church. In 2001, he was given a profound second chance at life through a liver transplant—something he never took for granted.

Al had a big heart—one that showed in every act of kindness, every hour given, and every life he touched. But above all, his family was his whole world. He loved them fiercely and completely, and that love will remain his greatest legacy. He will be remembered not only for what he did, but for who he was: a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, a faithful man, and a friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Brinkmann, Sr. and Ruth Eileen Brinkmann; and son, Mark Palmer.

Al is survived by his wife, Donna Brinkmann of Cook Station, MO; children, Al Brinkmann III of Cook Station, MO, Nick (Wendy) Brinkmann of Cuba, MO, Jacob Ball of Rolla, MO, Nikki (Brandon) Moore of Hobart, IN, and Julie (Adam) Reeves of Fort Bragg, North Carolina; grandchildren, Keeley Brinkmann, Kamille Brinkmann, Dakota Brinkmann, Makala Brinkmann, Abi Palmer, Kinley Brinkmann, Klaire Brinkmann, Emmra Ball, Eleanora Ball, Maddy Moore, Hayley Reeves, Jackson Reeves, Trent Reeves, Eli Reeves, Brooklyn Reeves, Brody Reeves, Jorden Backes, Logan Burke and Jackalyn Backes; great-grandchild, Rue Walker; special daughters-in-law, Jessie (Brandon) Sturdivant of St. James, MO, and Kim (Kevin) Sanders of Cuba, MO; sisters, Carol (Kent) Mechem of St. Louis, MO, Mary (Gary) Boyer of Barnhart, MO and Ann (Dan) Schwartz of Barnhart, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sherrie (Dale) Markham of Granger, IN, Kaye (Gary) Smith of Gallatin, TN and Todd (Cheryl) Willis of Soddy Daisy, TN; mother-in-law, Irene (Jack) Willis of Gallatin, TN; special friends, Kelly Siekerman of Steelville, MO and Dan Buerke of St. Louis, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
