Arlin "Gus" Head Obituary

Arlin “Gus” William Head of Steelville, MO was born on Tuesday, August 24, 1937 in Fredericktown, MO to William Obie Head and Nellie Sheppard Head.  He went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 2, 2020 at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 7 days.

On August 29, 1970 Gus was united in marriage to Tessie Jane (Midyett) Volner and became dad to her children Jerry and Lesa.  Gus loved kids and loved to take them camping on the river.  He always took 6 of Tessie’s nieces and nephews camping.  They loved to swim and float the Huzzah, anything to have fun with the kids.  They all loved him and have great memories of camping and hearing Gus and his mom tell wild stories around the campfire.  Gus worked for Brown Shoe Company for a few years and later became a Police Officer in Steelville and then Bourbon.  He worked at Circle C Ranch and then Roaring Springs in St. Clair, MO where he was a grounds keeper and raised Black Angus cattle.    He was a Golden Gloves Boxer in St. Louis for many years.  He liked riding four wheelers.  Gus enjoyed his routine of going to the coffee shop, then to Golden Echoes to play pool and then shining his truck.  He definitely liked his bikes & trucks and would always put flames on all of the kids’ cars.  Most of all, Gus loved his family and grandchildren.

In the fall of 1974, Gus and Tessie gave their hearts to Jesus at the First Assembly of God Church, with Brother Massey.  Gus loved the Lord and served him faithfully until he was unable to go because of his health.  He then would watch Jimmy Swaggart on Sunday mornings.  Gus would tell people that when the Lord was ready to call him home that he was ready to go.  The last few days before his passing he would say, “I want to go home” meaning heaven.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Nellie Head; parents-in-law Corby and Dora (Medley) Midyett; daughter Lesa Ann Walker; sisters Ruth Ann Roherer and Vicky Williams; sisters-in-law Rose (Tom) Bailey, Velma (Joe) Bailey, Gladyne (Bill) Newman and Carol McMillan; brothers-in-law Cecil Midyett and Lloyd Midyett.

Gus is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Tessie Head of Steelville, MO.  2 sons Jerry Head (fiancée Jennifer Hasting) of St. Clair, MO and Rick (Debbie) Marcucci of Des Moines, NM; 2 brothers Roger (JoAnn) Head of Springfield, MO and Steve Head of TX; 2 sisters Kathy (Gary) Lynchard of Bourbon, MO and Peggy (Steve) Pratte of Sullivan, MO; sister-in-law Connie Midyett of Cuba, MO; daughter-in-law Carrie Blocker of Washington, MO; son-in-law Kevin Walker of Cook Station, MO; 7 grandchildren Chad (JoAnn) Walker, Nikki Walker, Renee Schneider, Jerod (Debbie) Head, J.D.
