Avis L. (Doss) McMaster

Avis L. McMaster, nee Doss, of Steelville, MO was born on Friday, March 25, 1938, in Butts, MO to Lydle Doss and Elva Pearl Doss, nee Baldwin.  She passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Iron County Medical Center in Pilot Knob, MO at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 18 days.

Avis was born and raised in the Berryman area. She married Kenneth L. Brakefield early in life and to this union 5 children were born. She moved to Southern California in 1965 and lived there for many years, enjoying the sunny state and being near the beach. She worked as a waitress and then as a collator operator for a printing company. She enjoyed working and loved her job. She met the love of her life, Dale McMaster, and they spent over 40 years together.  They were avid campers on the weekends, and some of their favorite pastimes included digging for gold, fishing, and traveling together. After her husband’s death in 2012, Avis moved back to the Steelville area to be closer to her family.

Avis was preceded in death by her parents Lydle and Elva Doss; son Kenneth J. Brakefield; daughter Georgia Diane Brakefield; son-in-law William Dickey; and grandson Levi Wade.

Avis is survived by her children: Catherine (Christopher) Wolff of Steelville, MO, Shirley Brakefield of Cuba, MO, and Richard (Sam) Rogers of New Smyrna Beach, FL; daughter-in-law Norma Brakefield of Steelville, MO; grandchildren Tausha (Keith) Blake, Jr. of Rolla, MO, Kenny “Flip” Brakefield, Jr. of Steelville, MO, Warran Wade of Gardena, CA, Shane (Kendra) Brakefield of Slater, MO, Gracie Rogers of OK, Ella Rogers of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and James Kiblinger of Steelville, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
 

The family chose cremation as her final disposition.  A graveside service will be held at Lost Creek Cemetery, Berryman, MO at a later date.
