Betty Ruth (McConnell) Doss

Betty Ruth Doss of Cherryville, MO was born on Saturday, July 29, 1933 in Berryman, MO to George McConnell and Hallie (Haffer) McConnell. She passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at her home at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 17 days.

Betty grew up in Berryman and attended the Slowensky School. She married Billy Lee Doss on April 2, 1951 in Steelville, MO and to this union five children were born. They lived in Redford, MO for a few years but knew Berryman, MO as their hometown.  She worked as a cook most of her life; she worked at Spare Rib Inn, Wayside Inn and had owned and operated Ozark Cafe. She and Billy used to enjoy camping with Jim and Dodie Harmon and Red and Pauline Eaton. Betty enjoyed to sing and play the guitar and attend church singings. She liked gardening and canning. She loved to run around with her best friend Ina Gladden and to spend time with family, but most of all Betty enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and many close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Hallie McConnell; husband Billy Lee Doss; parents-in-law Lydle and Pearl (Ballwin) Doss; children Wanda Doss and Elray Doss; brothers-in-law William Eakers and Jewel Sweeney; sister-in-law Alice McConnell and son-in-law George Buckner.

She is survived by her children Helen “Sketter” Buckner (companion Jon Terry), Patricia (Roger) Green and Billy Gene Doss all of Cherryville, MO; grandchildren Jeffery Buckner of Steelville, MO, Tiffany Rowden of Cherryville, MO and Wesley (Holly) Green of Fort Bragg, NC; great grandchildren Jasmine and Chynell Buckner, Larissa Green, Daniel Robertson, Martin and Lily Green; great great grandson Jasper Buckner; siblings Erma Eakers of Bloomfield, MO, Anna (Mike) Catlett and Jesse McConnell both of Cuba, MO and Helen Sweeney of Steelville, MO; special friend Ina Gladden of Cherryville, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Private Visitation and Funeral was at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating on Friday, April 17, 2020. Burial was at Lost Creek Cemetery, Berryman, MO.  Service was live streamed on Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO’s Facebook page.

Music played was:  I'll Fly Away, Old Rugged Cross and How Great Thou Art all in bluegrass style.
