Cathy (Jones) Pinnell

Mary Catherine “Cathy” Pinnell, nee Jones, of Steelville, MO, was born on January 19, 1930, in Steelville, MO to James Shelby Jones and Mary Margaret Jones, nee Clymer. She passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Americare in Cuba, MO, at the age of 96 years, 4 months and 15 days.

Her fondest early memories were of growing up with her sister Rosemary Margaret in the home of her grandparents Roy and Jesse Clymer on Main Street in Steelville.

While working for attorney Earl Roberts of Steelville, she met the love of her life, William “Leroy” Pinnell at the Crawford County Court House, while his father was Crawford County Clerk.  They were married on January 22, 1949, at Rev. Uncle Sam Roper’s house in Steelville, MO, and to this union five children were born.

A wife and mother, she was quite active in her children’s lives through her longtime membership in Steelville Presbyterian Church, where she and Leroy served as “Skippers” of the Mariners, an officer and president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the PTA.  She returned to work later in life to work with her sister Rosemary for attorney John Woodward.  She was also active in the fund-raising for the Gibbs Senior Center in Steelville.  Cathy enjoyed reading and playing scrabble.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Pinnell; parents-in-law, William “Floyd” and Laura Pinnell; daughter, Leslie Pinnell; sister, Rosemary (Wayne) Blunt; brother-in-law, Ralph (Catherine) Pinnell; sisters-in-law, Eva Pinnell, Anna (Lindell) Hinch and Betty (Bill) Worley.

She is mourned by her children, Bill (Carol) Pinnell of Albuquerque, NM, Steve (Ginny) Pinnell of Columbia, SC, Debbie (Jim) Mallinckrodt of Overland Park, KS and Diane Pinnell of Cuba, MO; 7 grandchildren, Kenneth Pinnell of Columbia, SC, Patrick Pinnell of Austin, TX, Rebecca (Eric) Patterson of Irmo, SC, Jennae Pinnell and Katie (Mark) Lindsay both of Albuquerque, NM, AJ (Nikki) Mallinckrodt of Olathe, KS and Stephanie (Andy) Gillard of Louisburg, KS; 7 great grandchildren, JR and Levi Mallinckrodt, Logan and Cooper Gillard, Wesley Lindsay, Shea Patterson and Zoé Patterson.

Visitation was from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.  Burial was at Liberty Cemetery, Steelville, MO.
