Obituary

Christie Jo Smith, nee Callahan, of Cabool, MO, was born on Monday, July 7, 1975 in Rolla, MO to Richard Noah Callahan and Shirley Jo Callahan, nee Scott.  She passed away at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, MO on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at the age of 48 years, 1 month and 2 days.

Christie graduated from Viburnum High School in the Class of 1993.  She married the love of her life, Nathanael Isreal Smith in Champion, MO on January 15, 1993 and to this union four children were born.  Christie went to Ozark Technical College and Missouri State University in Springfield, MO where she obtained her degree to become a registered nurse.  She became passionate about healthcare after losing her father, Richard, in 2019.  She previously worked at Cox South in Springfield, MO on the cardiac floor and later at Phelps Health in Rolla, MO doing cardiac telemetry.  Christie had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and attended Trinity Freewill Baptist Church in Cabool, MO.  She wrote a book of poems that was published.  She was a member of the Missouri Stream Team and would help clean the rivers of trash.  She enjoyed quilting, raising her chickens, her birds and loved her dogs.  Most of all, Christie's family was her life and she loved spending time with them.  She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, cousin and friend.

She was preceded in death by her father Richard Callahan; father-in-law Jerome James Smith and brother-in-law Mathew Smith. 

Christie is survived by her husband of 30 years, Nathaneal “Nate” Smith of Cabool, MO; mother Shirley Callahan of Cherryville, MO; children Ryan Smith of West Plains, MO, Megan Smith, Ethan Smith and Bryce Smith all of Cabool, MO; mother-in-law Barbara Smith of Norwood, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Carol Williams of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Richard Carter of Napa Valley, CA, John Smith of Skyline, MO, Debbie Higgins of Torrington, CT, Dorothy (Shelby) Clement of Hartville, MO, Elijah Smith of Sarasota, FL, Joshua (Britny) Smith of Idaho Falls, ID and Rachel Smith of Cuba, MO; aunts, uncles, many cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 1:00 PM with Pastor Donnie Wells officiating.  The funeral service was live-streamed on Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO's Facebook Page beginning at 12:55 PM.  Burial was at Martin-Trask Cemetery, Cherryville, MO.

The family also had a memorial service for Christie at 5:00 PM on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Trinity Freewill Baptist Church in Cabool, MO.
