Clifton Lyle Courtney

Clifton Lyle Courtney of Meta, Missouri was born on Saturday, November 16, 1940, in Salem, MO to Glenn and Clara Swyers Courtney and passed away at his residence on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at the age of 80 years, 9 months, and 22 days.

His early years were spent in rural Crawford County.  He attended Cherryville High School and began his career of butchering meats in Keysville, MO at the age of 16.  His family moved to Lake Forest, IL where he was a butcher with Lakeside Foods for several years.  He then moved to Poplar Bluff, MO and worked for Charley’s Warehouse Foods for over 20 years.  At that time, the family moved to Meta, MO and lived on the farm. Clifton loved to hunt, fish, ride horses, and work on the farm.  He loved spending time with his family, especially his son. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Clara Courtney; brother Joe Courtney; nieces Schontelle Matheny and Jennifer Courtney; and nephew John Brown.

He is survived by his loving son Jerry Courtney of Meta, Mo; brother Robert "Bob" (Bonnie) Courtney of Highland Park, IL; sisters Connie (Al) Wallen and Nell (Bob) Brown all of Meta, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside Service will be 11:00 AM on Monday, September 13, 2021, at Cherryville Baptist Cemetery, Cherryville, MO with Bro. Len Young officiating.
