Connie Sue Wallen, nee Courtney, of Meta, MO was born on Sunday, August 09, 1936 in Salem, MO to Glen Dewey Courtney and Clara Golden (nee Swyers) Courtney. She passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022 at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 19 days.
Connie grew up in Cherryville, MO where she attended school. She had accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age and was a member of Meta Christian Church. Connie married the love of her life, Alves “Al” Earl Wallen, on March 1, 1952 in Pocahontas, AR and together they raised 5 children. She was a hard worker and was employed as a cashier for Sunset Foods in Northbrook, IL, worked at Walgreens and also catered. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and scratcher tickets. Connie liked to play marbles, solitaire and to go bowling with her husband, Al. Most of all, she loved her family and taking care of her children and grandchildren. Connie was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents Glen and Clara Courtney; parents-in-law Floyd and Mary Wallen; daughter Schontelle Matheny; son Mike Wallen; siblings Cliff Courtney and Joseph Courtney; brothers-in law Frank Franklin and Lindal Wallen; sister-in-law Phyllis Courtney.
Connie is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Alves “Al” Wallen of Meta, MO; daughters, Sonsee (Ken) Wheatley of Meta, MO, Clarice (David) Nape of Gilbert, AZ and Sendera (Jon) Kampeter of New Bloomfield, MO; son-in-law Ray Matheny of Meta, MO; brother Bob (Bonnie) Courtney of Highland Park, IL; sister Nell (Bob) Brown of Meta, MO and Beatrice Young of Potosi, MO; brother-in-law George (Roberta) Wallen of Hillsboro, MO; grandchildren Jordan Wheatley and Jessica Wheatley both of Jefferson City, MO, Brian (Racheal) Matheny of Jefferson City, MO, Shannon (Jace) Moore of Russellville, MO, Jason Matheny of Fulton, MO, Lena Nape and Dylan Nape both of Gilbert, AZ, Mathew Kampeter of California, MO and Christopher Kampeter of New Bloomfield, MO; 6 great grandchildren Zoey, Matheny, Elijah Moore, Archer Moore, Rose Matheny, Ray Matheny, and Karson Wheatley; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Visitation was from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 05, 2022 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO. Funeral Service immediately followed at 12:00 PM with Pastor Isaac Selin officiating. Burial was at Cherryville Baptist Cemetery, Cherryville, MO. Memorials were suggested to the American Cancer Society.
