Curtis L. Lefler of Steelville, MO was born on Thursday, September 05, 1946 in Dillard Mill, MO to John “Pete” Preston Lefler and Kiturah “Kitty” Mason Lefler. He passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital, Fenton, MO at the age of 75 years, 3 months, and 25 days.
Curtis was a lifelong resident of the Steelville, MO and attended Steelville High School. He married the love of his life, Betty Ann Robertson on November 17, 1965 in Steelville, MO and together they raised five children. Later in life, Curtis accepted the Lord as his personal Savior. He was a hard worker, working from sun up to sun down even when he was sick. He retired from Bill Missey Sawmill and worked many years as a mechanic for Huzzah Valley. Curtis was an active member of the Steelville Fire Department since 1986 and instrumental in breaking ground on the Berryman Fire House. He served in many positions, most recently as Captain (4502) at Fire House 3. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and in his earlier years he liked working on cars. Curtis was known as “Mr. Fix it”, if he couldn’t fix it then it couldn’t be fixed. He never met a stranger and was a father figure to many and would do anything for anybody. Most of all, Curtis loved his family.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents John “Pete” and Kiturah “Kitty” Lefler; parents in law Edward and Trula Robertson; sons Roger Dale Lefler and Curtis William “Billy” Lefler; brothers-in-law Darrell Evans, and Rick Hutchings; sisters-in-law Patricia (Odell) Evans, Wanda Hawkins, Charlene (Junior) Amberge, and Sybil (James) Ogrzewalla; grandchildren Rebecca Janelle Murphy and Peyton Thomlison.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Lefler of Steelville, MO; children Alvin Harmon (Natalie Eye), Steven (Denyal) Lefler and Esther (Tim) Richardson all of Steelville, MO, and Rickey (Cynthia) Harmon of Cherryville, MO; sisters-in-law Geraldine King and Donna Tittsworth both of Steelville, MO, and Karen Hutchings of Cuba, MO; brothers-in-law Sonny (Mary) Hutchings and Edward “June Bug” (Sandra) Robertson both of Steelville, MO and Jestin Evans of Effingham, IL; grandchildren Jennifer Johnston and Amy Young both of Festus, MO, Joshua Harmon of Davisville, MO, Isaiah Harmon of Cherryville, MO, Josh Murphy and Amber Henry both of Cook Station, MO, Miranda Harmon, Kendra Lefler, Ryan Evans, Breanna Lefler, Whitney Lefler, Preston Lefler, Morgan Lefler, Danielle Trautwein, Bobby Richardson and Stacey Richardson all of Steelville, MO, Alisha Lefler of Sedalia, MO, Ashley Thomlinson and Jerry Heeter both of Potosi, MO; great grandchildren Alexis Sholts, Adelynn Johnston, Tyler Young, and Hailey Young all of Festus, MO, Cheyanne Harmon of Davisville, MO, Halie Murphy, Alise Murphy, Catelynn Murphy, Jacob Henry, William Henry, Daniel Henry, and Brooklyn Henry all of Cook Station, MO, Ryker Brooks, Tristan Oberline, Atreus Bartosik, Jase Evans, Lucy Evans, Remmy Schneider, Zac Eaton, Zoey Eaton, Willow Jaycox, Braden Richardson, and Bennett Richardson all of Steelville, MO, Journey Turner of Viburnum, MO, and Piper Thomlinson of Potosi, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Visitation was from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday January 05, 2022 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO. Funeral Service was at 11:00 AM on Thursday January 06, 2022 with Rev. Alan Miles and Bro. Charles Jackson officiating. The service was live-streamed on Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO's Facebook page beginning at 10:55 AM. Burial was at Shoal Creek Cemetery, Steelville, MO. Memorials were suggested to the funeral home to assist the family with final expenses.
