Daphyne Potter Obituary

Daphyne L. Potter, nee Sellers, of Steelville, MO, was born on Friday, December 3, 1926, in Dillard, MO to Denny D. Sellers and Effie Lilly Sellers, nee Callahan.  She passed away peacefully at her home in Steelville, MO on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the age of 97 years, 10 months and 7 days.

Daphyne grew up in Maple Grove, MO with 10 siblings.  She moved to St. Louis, MO, where she met the love of her life, Louis Bartley Potter.  They were married on May 6, 1945, in St. Louis, MO, and to this union five children, Sandra, Linda, Denny, Debra and Donna were born.  Louis went into the military shortly after their marriage and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands.  She moved back to Steelville, and she and Louis built a home where they raised their family once he returned.  Daphyne had accepted the Lord and was a member of Center Point Baptist Church.  She worked for Brown Shoe Factory in the Heel Department until her retirement.  Daphyne loved sewing, quilting, planting flowers and listening to gospel music.  Most of all, she loved her family; especially her grandchildren.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Denny and Effie Sellers; parents-in-law, Louis and Winifred Potter; husband Louis Potter; infant son, Denny Glen Potter; daughter Donna Sue Potter; siblings, Nina Day, Gladine (Homer) Day, Gladys (Arley) Terry, Wilma (Clint) Abrams, Jesse Sellers, Clyde Sellers, Herman Sellers, Willard Sellers and Johnny Sellers; sisters-in-law Norma (Bob) Alexander, Helen (Tommy) Alexander, Jean (Wayne) Dotson and Ruth Garms; brother-in-law Norman Hoffarth; great granddaughter Alicia “Allie” Johnson.

Daphyne is survived by her daughters, Sandra Johnson and Debra (Charles) Smith both of Steelville, MO and Linda (Tom) Brand of Hazelwood, MO; grandchildren, Jeff (Denise) Johnson of Doolittle, MO, Christopher (Sheila) Johnson of Swansea, IL, Bartley (Melissa) Johnson of Wingo, KY, James Brand of Hazelwood, MO, Russell (Susanne) Brand of Bartelso, IL, Andrew (Kendra) Harris of Springfield, MO, Robbie (Jamie) Harris of Steelville, MO, Matthew (Denise) Smith of St. Peters, MO and Lucas Smith of San Diego, CA; brother Homer Sellers of Steelville, MO; brother-in-law Roman Day of Park Hills, MO; sister-in-law Betty Sellers of Boss, MO; 19 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside Service was at  1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Steelville Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.  Memorials were suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
