Deborah "Debbie" Ann (Upton) Hendrix

Deborah “Debbie” Ann Hendrix, nee Upton, of Prairie Home, MO was born on Saturday, November 29, 1952, in Kansas City, MO to Thurman James Upton and Mary Lucille Upton, nee Buchanan.  She passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at her home at the age of 70 years, 5 months, and 24 days.

Debbie attended schools in Eldon, MO and Osage, MO.  She was the head cook for Prairie Home School for many years and married the love of her life, Thomas “Tom” W. Hendrix on December 22, 1979, in Eldon, MO.  She had accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and was an active member of the Riverside Christian Church in Boonville, MO.  Debbie enjoyed attending the LAF (Life After 50) group for breakfast every week.  She was always willing to help clean and occasionally cook for various functions at the church.  She was known for her loving and sweet disposition and was always kind to those around her.  She loved decorating her home, tending to her flowers, traveling with her husband, and cooking for her family.  Her life was her family, children, and Tom, her husband.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents Thurman and Mary Upton; parents-in-law Herbert “Stanley” and Bonnie “Ruth” Hendrix; brothers Jimmy (Shirley) Upton, Billy (Pat) Upton, and David (Rhonda) Upton; sisters Mary Johnson and Betty (Ron) Howes; and great grandchild Temperance Hill.

Debbie is survived by her loving husband of 43 years Tom Hendrix of Prairie Home, MO; children Eric (Wendy) Hendrix of Kansas, Melanie (Joe) Bennett of Linn Creek, MO, Christopher (Ivy) Hendrix of Kansas City, MO, Justin Hendrix and Joseph Hendrix both of Columbia, MO; brothers Larry (Ruth) Upton of Etterville, MO and Donnie (Lana) Upton of Osage Beach, MO; brothers-in-law Warren (Shirley) Hendrix of Steelville, MO and Roy Johnson of FL; sisters-in-law LaDonna (Jack) Dotzman of Belton, MO, Linda (Doc) Rush of Atlanta, GA, and Wanda Miller of Jefferson City, MO; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 1:00 PM—2:00 PM on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO. Memorial Service immediately followed at 2:00 PM with Pastor Bill Smart officiating.  Inurnment was at Moutray Cemetery, Steelville, MO.
