Doris Kathleen Henderson, nee Stroup, was born on Sunday, October 7, 1945 in Ellington, MO to Woodrow Elmer Stroup and Opal Bell Stroup, nee Fears. She passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Steelville Senior Living at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 26 days.
Doris married Ivan Roy Fortner on March 25, 1960 in Iron Mountain, MO and to this union 5 children were born. She was a housewife and later worked as a home health aide and at the children’s home in Farmington, MO. Doris had accepted the Lord early in life. She loved singing; she was a song leader and sang in a gospel group. She enjoyed sewing, reading and splurging with mountain dew and snack cakes. Doris especially loved finding treasures while antiquing, thrifting and going to yard sales. She loved to travel, specifically enjoyed England and Ireland. Most of all, Doris loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ivan Fortner; parents Woodrow and Opal Stroup; parents-in-law Emmett and Maude Fortner, nee Cash; children Jeffery Scott Fortner and infant; brothers Kenneth Stroup, Bill Stroup and Johnny Ray Stroup.
Doris is survived by her children Kathy Mitchell of Steelville, MO, Cindy (Dan) Green of Springfield, MO, James (Tammy) Fortner of Bonne Terre, MO and Kristy Wright of Lesterville, MO; 14 grandchildren: Kati (Justin) Cranmer, Aaron Fortner, Ashly (Brandon) Newlon, Abigail (Matt) Gillam, James Fortner, Jr., Jennifer (Josh) Nuneviller, Chloe Goesmann, Connor Goesmann, Morgan Goesmann, Sara Fortner, Orion Goesmann, Emalee Fortner, Liam Wright and Jase Wright; 11 great grandchildren: Emma Feeler, Sofie Fortner, Madison Newlon, Isabella Feeler, Caleb Cranmer, Gideon Cranmer, Lily Cranmer, Oliver Newlon, Matthew Gilliam, Jr., Diesel Goesmann and Ivan Goesmann; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family chose cremation as her final disposition, there will not be any services held.
