Dorothy Matchell Obituary

Dorothy Pauline Matchell, nee Summers, of Steelville, MO, was born on Friday, December 9, 1927 in Brazil, MO to Charles Edward Summers and Viola Marie (Bouse) Summers.  She passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 25 days.

Dorothy grew up in Berryman, MO.  She had accepted the Lord early in life and had attended Center Point Baptist Church.  She married Raymond Haffer and to this union five children were born.  She later married Raymond “Ray” C. Matchell on December 11, 1980.  Dorothy worked at Grandpa Pidgeon’s in St. Louis, MO then later owned and operated the Berryman Store for 40 years. She enjoyed to go to yard sales, attending church and fishing.  She loved to travel, especially in the west and near the mountains.  Most of all, Dorothy loved her family especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Viola Summers; parents-in-law John and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Rumphel) Matchell; husband Ray Matchell; daughter Virginia Pearl Haffer; step-daughter Evelyn (Ed) Matchell; brother Charles Monroe (Bonnie) Summers; sister Mamie Lee (Claude) Harris and granddaughter-in-law Kim Haffer.

She is survived by her children Ray (Joan) Haffer of St. Ann, MO, Bob (Janet) Haffer of Sullivan, MO, Jim (Lana) Haffer of Steelville, MO and Mary (Charles) Turner of Farmington, MO; stepson Raymond (Sherry) Matchell of DeSoto, MO; brother Charles (Janette) Summers of Ironton, MO; sisters Phyllis (Willard) Love of OH, Jane (Bob) Slack of VA and Ruth (David) Case of WY; 8 grandchildren: Mike (Linda) Edison, Angie (Bill) Norris, Randy Haffer, Billy Haffer, Blake (Andrea) Haffer, Tracey (Jeff) Keeven, Dale (Kelly) Turner and Todd Turner; 15 great grandchildren: Michael, Kaitlyn, Anthony, Nathan, Tori, Brittany, Bethany, Libby, Bailey, Mae, Jessica (Justin), Cassandra, Angela, Rachel and Riley; 8 great great grandchildren: Jaden, Jasper, Adelyn, Barrett, Ciana, Hayden, Alivia and Wesley; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 10:00 am - 11:00 am on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 11:00 am with Pastor Matt Cook officiating.  Burial at Hibler Cemetery, Steelville, MO.  Memorials may be given to Hibler Cemetery Maintenance Fund (3841 Hwy T, Steelville, MO 65565).

Pallbearers were Blake Haffer, Todd Turner, Dale Turner, Jeff Keeven, Randy Haffer and Justin Strong.
