Douglas Crownover, Sr. Obituary

Douglas J. Crownover, Sr.  of Cuba, MO was born on Sunday, April 26, 1959, in Detroit, MI and was raised by his loving parents John Lester Crownover, Jr. and Lois Mae Crownover, nee Peck.  He passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO at the age of 64 years, 5 months, and 17 days.

He grew up in Michigan and graduated from Columbia Central High School in Brooklyn, MI, class of 1977. He took a few classes from Jackson Community College and then attended firefighting school. He began his volunteer firefighting and first responder career while still in high school and was known to miss classes because he was called out for an emergency. He married Rosanne M. Cool on June 15, 1984 and together they raised five sons, Kevin, Patrick, Roy, Doug Jr, and Daniel.

Doug had made a profession of faith early in life. He had a servant’s heart, was inspirational to a lot of people, and saved many lives. He lived in Jackson, MI during his early years and spent 29 years as a volunteer firefighter with the Columbia Township Fire Department. In addition, he owned his own company, Crownover Lawn Maintenance, for many years. Later in life he became an over the road truck driver for a period of time. Upon moving to Missouri, he volunteered for the St. Roberts Fire Department for approximately 5 years. During his career, his highest ranking was Lieutenant because of his dedication, hard work, and expertise.

Doug and Rosanne lived in Cuba, MO for 15 plus years. He served and supported the Cuba VFW, volunteered for Fema during Hurricane Katrina and was an avid hot air balloon pilot. His wife supported his endeavors, even becoming an experienced hot air balloon chaser. He loved to hunt, fish and bowl; however, spending time with his wife, sons, and grandchildren was his most favorite pastime.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Lois Crownover; parents-in-law Harold and Beatrice Hurst Cool; sisters-in-law Dana Crownover and Carolyn Sue Cool; and brother-in-law Michael Henry.

Doug is survived by his loving wife Rosanne Crownover of Cuba, MO; his five sons Kevin (Laura) Day of Tulsa, OK, Patrick David Day of Laredo, TX, Roy Everette Day of Indianapolis, IN, Douglas John Crownover Jr. and Daniel James Crownover both of Jefferson City, MO; brother Mark Crownover of Bellevue, MI; sister Lisa Henry of Lawson, MO; sisters-in-law Ramona Jean Cool of Lehigh Acres, FL and Christine K. (John) Bell of Sleeper, MO; brother-in-law Harold (Arleen) Cool of Sleeper, MO; grandchildren Robert Day of Hillsdale, MI, Bo Ross of Columbia, MO, Tia Ross and Garrett Day both of Tulsa, OK and Judson Crownover of Jefferson City, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
