Douglas Scott King, Jr. of St. James, MO was born on Monday, June 20, 1927 in Butts, MO to Douglas Scott King, Sr. and Rosa Belle (Eggers) King. He passed away at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, MO on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at the age of 93 years, 3 months and 2 days.
Doug served our country honorably in the United States Army where he served in both World War II and was a Prisoner of War in the Korean War. He married Cleo D. Halbert on July 21, 1951 in Salem, AR and to this union 4 children were born. He worked for Rock Hill and Fred Weber Construction until he retired in 1984. He was a member of the American Legion in Eureka, MO, VFW Posts in Rolla, MO and Sullivan, MO, Eagles Club and Elks Club. Doug loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed playing cards, going dancing on Friday nights and farming. He loved to joke, have fun and could put anyone on their knees by “milking their mouse.” He taught many life lessons in unusual ways. He was an amazing father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Douglas Sr. and Rosa King; parents-in-law Dora and Warfel (Singleton) Halbert; wife Cleo King; brothers Sylvia King and Buster King; sister Lorraine (Don) Brush; brothers-in-law Albert( (Erma) Halbert, Ben Farris, Rev. Arthur Gormley and James (Sue) King; sister-in-law Esther (Tom) Donal.
He is survived by his children Joe (Marge) King of Memphis, TN, Jim (Donna) King of Doolittle, MO, Linda (Kevin) Dykes and Jeffrey King (Margie Patterson) all of Sullivan, MO; foster son Mark (Jacki) Langworthy of Columbia, MO; siblings Rosalee Gormley of Lebanon, MO, Virginia Farris of Cuba, MO, Ralph (Debbie) King of Leasburg, MO, Wayne (Robin) King of Potosi, MO and Leon (Pat) King of Sullivan, MO; sister-in-law Lois King Anderson of Bolivar, MO and Irene Richards of Steelville, MO; brother-in-law Gene Halbert of Steelville, MO; many grandchildren; many great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, MO. Funeral Service was at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, MO with Pastor Art Gormley officiating. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery, Butts, MO with full military honors. Memorials were suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
