Douglas Tiberghien Obituary

Douglas Arthur Tiberghien, of Steelville, MO, was born on Saturday, July 18, 1942 in St. Louis, MO to Lafayette Tiberghien, II. and Bertha Tiberghien, nee Myers.  He passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, MO on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 6 days.

Doug grew up and attended school in St. Louis, MO.  He joined the United States Army where he served his country honorably doing crash rescue in Vietnam.  He married the love of his life, Barbara Joyce Koch, on September 19, 1970 in St. Louis, MO and together they had six children.  Doug was a firefighter for University City, owned and operated River Valley Gas & Appliance in Steelville and later worked as an over the road truck driver for Sullivan Asphalt until retirement.  He was a previous member of the Steelville Country Club, Kiwanas and Veterans of Foreign Wars.  Doug enjoyed humor, pranks and was the self-proclaimed “Mayor of Wesco, MO.”  He served on the board for the Teamsters Union Local #110 and served on the Parks and Recreation Board in Steelville.  Doug enjoyed watching westerns, hunting, fishing and BBQs.  He spent a lot of time with his grandson Ryan, whether it was going to Spare Rib on Saturday mornings, fishing in Oklahoma in the spring or other shenanigans.  He enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events, taking his dog “Buddy” for rides and storytelling.  Doug liked to travel as long as he was always the driver.  Most of all, Doug enjoyed being with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lafayette II. and Bertha Tiberghien; parents-in-law Louis and Virginia Koch; siblings Lafayette (Helen) Tiberghien, III., Lenore Mae (Frank “Bud”) Gardner, Jesse (Carol) Tiberghien and Phoebe “Ann” Tiberghien; son-in-law Stephan White; granddaughter Megan Johnson; grandsons Eddie Fedison, Jr. and Anthony Risko.
