Earlene M. Pollard, nee Riggs, was born on Thursday, October 4, 1934, in Steelville, MO to Claude Riggs and Lorene Riggs, nee Skaggs. She passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at her home in Steelville, MO at the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 27 days.
Earlene was born in Huzzah, MO and attended the one-room schoolhouse in that area. She worked for many years in the medical field as a nurse and enjoyed taking care of others. She married Carl Clinton Pollard on March 19, 1977 in Granite City, IL. They moved to Montgomery City, MO and lived there for many years. Some of her favorite pastimes included gardening, fishing, camping, and just being outdoors. After retirement, Earlene and husband became “snowbirds” traveling throughout the United States. She also enjoyed cooking and did the baking at her family’s shop, “Mom’s Hometown Bakery” in St. James, MO where she was well known for her pies. She loved her family, and especially adored her grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Earlene was preceded in death by her parents Claude and Lorene Riggs; husband Carl Pollard; daughter Patricia Ann (Mike) Sands; brothers Ivan Riggs and Kenneth Riggs; nephew Jimmy Riggs, Jr.; and granddaughters Loriann Sands and Belinda Hoffman.
Earlene is survived by her children Janice (Mike) Frazier of Bellflower, MO and Tammy (Carl) Perkins of Steelville, MO; brother Jim (Barb) Riggs of Cherryville, MO; sister-in-law Helga Riggs of O’Fallon, MO; grandchildren Michael (Maryann) Sands, Jr. of Owensville, MO, Michael Clinton Frazier of Bellflower, MO, Anthony (Amanda) Perkins of St. James, MO, and Keneth Perkins of Steelville, MO; great grandchildren Ryan Hoffman, Alyssa Hoffman, and Justin Hoffman all of Bellflower, MO, Liberty Sands (fiancé Chance Gentry) of Steelville, MO, Seth Sands of MO, Mariah Perkins of St. James, MO, Ben Perkins and Evan Perkins both of Rolla, MO; nephew Brian (Melissa) Riggs of Hillsboro, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family chose cremation as her final disposition. The family will host a Celebration of Life Service at their home on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 2:00 PM - 4:00PM.
