Edward Wise Obituary

Edward Leon Wise of Cuba, Missouri was born on Wednesday, August 11, 1948, in Flint, Michigan to Jay Daniel Wise and Mary Christine Gates Wise.  He passed away at St. Luke's Rehabilitation Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the age of 74 years and 26 days.

Edward attended and graduated from Hartland High School in Michigan.  He was drafted in the United States Army in 1970 and served in the Vietnam War.  While in the military, he earned his degree in Business Administration from Columbia, College.  After 21 years, Edward retired from the United States Army at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.  He moved to Cuba, MO and married the love of his life, Gwendolyn Lee Eye on June 12, 2012.  He had accepted the Lord as his personal Savior later in life and they attended Amazing Grace Community Church.  Edward was civic and service minded.  He volunteered at the Cuba Food Pantry and Cuba Ministerial Alliance. He was the Crawford County coordinator for Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child and a member of Disabled American Veterans.  Edward always said that during his military life, he had lived and traveled all over the world. However, he found his “home” when he settled in Cuba, MO because of the welcoming community and his loving church family. Edward enjoyed Bible study, gardening, military statistics, collecting coins, and traveling.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jay and Mary Wise; father-in-law Elvin Eye; brothers Mitch Wise, Dennis Wise and infant John Wise; sisters toddler Delores Ann Wise, Verginia Wise, Veyonda Wise; and sister-in-law Susie Eye.

He was survived by his loving wife Gwendolyn Wise of Cuba, MO; children April (Ron) Keller of Manassas, VA, Wade (Kelley) Wise of Cuba, MO, Brian Wise of WI, Stephanie (Dorian) Brunson of SC, Patty (Aaron) Hernandez of TX, Missy (Keith) Kelly of Dixon, MO, Rachel Conner of Rolla, MO and Brandon (Jacquelyn) Eye of St. Louis, MO; brothers Dan (Paulette) Wise of TN, Vern (Cathy) Letson of GA, and Darrow Wise location unknown; sister Verna (Wayne) Brundage of MI; mother and father-in-law Dona (Arlie) Forbes of St. Louis, MO; brother-in-law Gregory (Colleen) Eye of Berryman, MO;  14 grandchildren;  4 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Visitation was from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, MO.  Funeral Service was11:00 AM on Monday, September 12, 2022, at Amazing Grace Community Church, Cuba, MO with Pastor Gary Mace officiating. Burial was at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO.  Memorials were suggested to Samaritan’s Purse –Operation Christmas Child at PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or online at www.samaritanspurse.org.
