Edwin “Ed” L. Worley of Cuba, MO was born on Saturday, June 8, 1940, in Steelville, MO to LeRoy Worley and Rosalie Ransom Worley. He passed away at his home in Cuba, MO on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at the age of 81 years, 3 months, and 4 days.
Ed grew up in the Steelville area. He married Shirley Bogue and to this union 2 children were born. He worked at Brown Shoe Company for a few years, and then went to Sho-ME Power for a while. He became an over the road truck driver for several years before buying a dozer and other heavy equipment and started Ed Worley Trucking and Excavating. He was very successful in his business, building several ponds and lakes, building roads for private property owners, as well as maintaining existing roads, clearing land of trees and brush, and hauled innumerable loads of fill dirt, gravel, chat, and topsoil.
He married Evelyn “Kay” Sell on July 3, 1992, at Center Point Baptist Church in Steelville, MO. They made their home in Cuba, MO for the last 29+ years. Ed campaigned for Crawford County Presiding Commissioner and won two elections. He served in this position for 8 years, 2002 – 2010. During the time of his campaigning, he visited over 4000 homes.
Ed spent many years stock car racing. He owned his own stock car and then later was one of the main men on Billy Gilliam’s Racing Team. After he quit racing, he still attended the races regularly. He loved hunting, fishing, and gigging. He owned one of the first jet boats in Crawford County. He and Kay especially enjoyed traveling out west and to the New England area together. He loved playing jokes on his friends. There are still many “Ed” stories floating around today. He will be missed so much by his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy Worley, and his beloved mother, Rosalie Worley; sister Joyce Worley; and parents-in-law Arthur and Gertrude Hardin Brown.
He is survived by his loving wife Kay Worley of Cuba, MO; daughters Dana Barton of Cuba, MO and Cindy (Johnny) Kidd of O’Fallon, MO; stepdaughter Angela (David) Glynn of Lebanon, MO; grandchildren Ryan, Ravyn, Isaac, Aaron; step-grandchild Sadie; great grandchildren Katelyn, Carter, Jack, and Jilly; sister Mary Sue (Bill) Ondr of St. Louis, MO; brothers-in-law Bill (Nancy) Brown, Ken (Pat) Brown all of Steelville, MO and Bob Brown of IL; special friends Carl Coddington of Cuba, MO and Billy (Vickey) Gilliam of Steelville, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends of Crawford County.
Visitation is Thursday, September 23, 2021, from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Deer Creek Church in Cuba, MO. Celebration of Life Services will immediately follow at 5:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Beers and Pastor Tommy Miller officiating. Inurnment will be in the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, MO.
