Eldon Carl Obituary

Eldon Lowell Carl of Cuba, MO was born on Friday, December 27, 1929 in Ishmael, MO to Kelsy Carl and Floy Badgley Carl.  He passed away at the Missouri Veteran's Home in St. James, MO on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 27 days.

He accepted the Lord early in life.  He graduated from Cherryville High School in May of 1948.  He worked at General Motors in St. Louis from 1949 – 1951 until enlisting in the United States Army in September of 1951. He was honorably discharged in November of 1952 and hired on once more at GM.  He was a Foreman for 20 plus years in their Fisher Body Division.

Eldon married the love of his life, Shirley Christian, on September 3, 1955 and to this union, two children were born. After leaving GM, they moved to the Cuba area where he raised cattle for a while and worked for United Farm Agency as a real estate agent and broker. He then became self-employed and bought and sold property for many years. He was well-known in and around the Crawford County area for his property investments.

He was a member of the Cuba Lodge #312 AF & AM and the Optimist Club.  Eldon and Shirley volunteered at the Crawford County Fair in the food and ticket booth for many years. They loved to travel and took their children on vacation every year. As they grew older, they liked to play bingo together and continued to travel as long as their health allowed. Eldon was especially known in the area for his landscaping expertise. He meticulously cared for his yard and properties throughout the years.  He planted flowers, raised gardens, and loved being outdoors.  He always received lots of compliments on the appearance of his properties. He was also quick to help his neighbors and friends in need, mowing their yards, or helping in other ways. He loved music and playing the guitar.  He had played in a band in his younger years, but still enjoyed jam sessions with his friends playing country music.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents Kelsy and Floy Carl; wife Shirley Carl; parents-in-law Noah and Edna Christian; sisters Norma (Cecil) Smith and Cleo (Dan) Harris; sisters-in-law Mary Simmons and Pat Christian.

He is survived by one son Randy (Shelia) Carl, Sr., of Freeman, MO; one daughter Andrea Carl of Cuba, MO; grandchildren Randall (fiancée Koren Tarwater) Carl, Jr. of Adrian, MO, Christian Carl and Whitney (fiancée Shane McBee) Carl all of Freeman, MO; great grandchildren Taylyn Fletcher and Elowyn McBee of Freeman, MO, Shawn Tarwater and Cian Tarwater Carl both of Adrian, MO; brother Jerry (Juanita) Carl of Dorchester, IL;  brother-in-law Jim Christian of Imperial, MO; extended family member Pete Traina of St. Louis, MO; other relatives and many friends.
