Obituary

Ervin J. Harmon, of Steelville, MO was born on Thursday, December 16, 1943 in Butts, MO to Corbett "Jewell" Harmon and Anna Belle Harmon (nee McConnell).  He passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Steelville Senior Living at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 23 days.

Ervin attended Little Springs School in Butts, MO and then Steelville Schools before he started working in the log woods.  He married Mary Lou Staples on January 26, 1962 at his sister Hallie's house in Steelville, MO and to this union a daughter, Lisa, was born.  He worked as a carpenter and lived in DeSoto, MO for awhile since it was half way between work in the city during the week and the farm in Huzzah, where they would go on the weekends.  When he retired, he moved to Steelville full-time.  He was a member of the Carpenter's Union.  He was a member of many bowling leagues, horseshoe leagues and Stump Jumper's Motorcycle Club in Potosi, MO.  Ervin was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting whether it was birds, deer, turkey or squirrels.  He liked camping, Baha VWs, dune buggies and racing stock cars (#3) in DeSoto and Farmington.  Most of all, Ervin loved his family and spending time with them.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jewell and Anna Harmon; wife Mary Lou Harmon; parents-in-law Clyde and Lenora "Suce" Staples; siblings Ralph (Anna) Harmon, Jessie (Ethel) Harmon, Hallie (Orin) Key, James "Jim" (Deloris "Dodie") Harmon; brothers-in-law Lindell (Betty) Staples and Jay Staples; sister-in-law Iva Jean Staples; nephew Dale Harmon; niece Mindy Tarter; great great niece Sadie Summers.

Ervin is survived by his daughter Lisa (Joe) Mesey of Huzzah, MO; grandchildren Jesse (Stephanie) Mesey of Hillsboro, MO and Ashley Mesey of DeSoto, MO; great grandson Bennett Mesey of Hillsboro, MO; twin brother Alvin (Linda) Harmon of Festus, MO; sisters-in-law Judy Staples of Farmington, MO and Deloris Siders of Crystal City, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 11:00 AM—2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO. Funeral Service immediately followed at 2:00 PM with Rev. Larry Martin officiating.  Burial was at Berryman Cemetery, Berryman, MO.

All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO.
