Ethel Allison Obituary

Ethel A. Allison nee Troutt of DeSoto, MO, formerly of Cuba, MO and Steelville, MO, was born on Sunday, March 11, 1917 in Bourbon, MO to Erb Vick Troutt and Gertrude Helen Koehn Troutt.  She passed away at Fountainbleau Nursing Home in Festus, MO on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at the age of 104 years, 6 months and 1 day.

She was born in a log cabin in Bourbon, MO and attended Bourbon Schools. She went to work for Paramount Apparel International in Bourbon at a young age making 50 cents an hour. Her first paycheck for 2 weeks of work was $9.90 which she was very proud of.  She married the love of her life, Homer Allison, on September 14, 1940 in Bourbon and to this union one son was born.  They celebrated 60 years together before his death in 2001.

Ethel and Homer moved to Florissant in 1945 and lived there for 38 years.  She was baker for Hazelwood High School for 13 of those years and also loved tending to her vegetable garden.  They moved to Cuba, MO in November of 2000 and lived in the Rutz Subdivision. She was a member of the Cuba Methodist Quilters Club, the Bingo Club and enjoyed playing cards at the Cuba Senior Center. She attended First Baptist Church of Cuba regularly as long as her health allowed. In 2011, Ethel moved to Steelville, MO and spent several years there before moving with her son in the De Soto area.

She was preceded in death by her husband Homer Allison; parents Erb Vick and Gertrude Troutt; sisters Helen (James Leland) Higgins, Evelyn Troutt, and Thelma Troutt; brother Clive (Doris) Troutt; and brother-in-law Otis Allison.

She is survived by her loving son Rev. Larry (Lana) Allison of DeSoto, MO; grandson Tod (Karen) Allison of Robertsville, MO; sister-in-law Velma Allison of Steelville, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 1:00 PM with Rev. Larry Allison officiating.  Burial was at Crossroads Cemetery, Leasburg, MO.
