Obituary

Hartford Cordell Harris of Steelville, MO was born on Thursday, April 21, 1938 in Davisville, MO to Dallas E. Harris and Beulah M. Harris (nee Callahan).  He passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Stonecrest Healthcare Center in Viburnum, MO at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 21 days.

Hartford attended school in Cherryville, MO.  He worked for Brown Shoe Company for over 30 years.  Hartford married the love of his life Beretha Nellie Smith on December 10, 1956 and to this union seven children were born.  Hartford accepted the Lord as his personal Savior early in life and attended Rivers of Life in Steelville.   Hartford enjoyed working on cars, especially Chevrolets.  He liked hunting, fishing, and vegetable gardening.  He also enjoyed car rides with his wife.  He loved music, playing guitar and singing at family gatherings.  Most of all, he loved his family, especially his kids, grandkids and helping them when they needed it. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beretha Harris; parents Dallas and Beulah Harris; parents-in-law Emory and Daphna Smith; sons Steve Harris and Deryl Harris; siblings James Estel (wife Pat) Harris, Alma Jean Harris, Mellie Marie Harris, Erma Smith and Cleta Haffer; brothers-in-law Wayne (wife Nellie Mae) Smith, Robert Smith, Thomas Smith and John Smith; and sister-in-law Elaine (husband Theodore) Lackner.

Hartford is survived by his children Ron (wife Becky) Harris of Salem, MO,  Cheryl (husband Kennith) Bennett of Steelville, MO,  Roger (wife Lily) Harris of McLoud, OK, Carol Harris of Steelville, MO and Bradley (wife Molly) Harris of Cook Station, MO; daughter-in-law Debby Harris of Cuba, MO;  sister Merle Lee (husband Johnnie) Eye of Steelville, MO; brothers-in-law Jerry (Rosella) Smith of Steelville, MO and Walter Haffer of Cuba, MO; sister-in-law Aletha Smith of Steelville, MO; 19 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 12:00 PM with Rev. Henry Copling officiating.  The service was live-streamed on Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO's Facebook page beginning at 11:55 AM. Burial was at Martin-Trask Cemetery, Steelville, MO.
