James L. Pettig, Sr. of St. Charles, MO, was born on Saturday, March 23, 1935, in New Truxson, MO to Elmer E. Pettig and Opal M. Pettig, nee Monroe. He passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Phelps Health Hospital in Rolla, MO at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 22 days.
Jim was a 1954 graduate of St. Charles High School and had accepted the Lord early in life. He was an Army Veteran. He married Rebecca Cottingham and to this union 5 children were born. He later married Katherine A. Pettig and celebrated 35 years together with 1child born. He was a mail carrier for over 28 years for the St. Charles, MO area. He was a volunteer fireman for the St. Charles Fire Department for some time and a 45-year member of the NALC (National Association of Letter Carriers). Some of his favorite pastimes were driving his tractor, fishing, and bowling. He also enjoyed watching the St.Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and adored spending time with his dog Benjamin, a Shih Tzu.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Opal Pettig; infant sister Rita Louise Pettig; sons Terry A. Pettig and Seth J. Pettig; grandson Joshua Pettig; and 2 great granddaughters, April Tegeler and Hanna Wallace.
He is survived by his children James Pettig, Jr. of Cuba, MO, Katherine Tegeler of St. Charles, MO, Jeffery Pettig of Steelville, MO, Kimberly (Jim) Wallace of Belle, MO and Brenda Pettig Cole of Troy, MO; stepson Christopher (Cindy) Burback of Troy, MO; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother Gary E. Pettig of O’Fallon, MO; niece and nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family chose cremation as his final disposition. A memorial service will be held at a later time.
