James "Jim" "Smitty" Smith Obituary

James "Jim" "Smitty" Allan Smith of Steelville, MO was born on Friday, June 5, 1964 in St. Louis, MO to Harold "Smitty" Junior Smith, Jr. and Jacquelene "Tootie" (nee Livesay) Smith.  He passed away at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at the age of 56 years, 9 months and 29 days.

Smitty grew up in Steelville, MO and graduated from Steelville High School with the Class of 1982.  He immediately went into the construction industry where he worked over 35 years in the union and was a member of the Carpenter’s Regional Council Local #2298.  He had most recently worked for CIC in St. Louis, MO.  Smitty loved all things outdoors and nature, whether it was hunting, fishing or working in the garden.  He enjoyed going to auctions, to make things and listen to 80’s music.  He loved NASCAR and attending the races.  Most of all, Smitty loved his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold "Smitty" and Jacquelene "Tootie" Smith; grandparents Ralph & Florentine Livesay and Harold Sr. & Clara Smith.

Smitty is survived by his brothers Gary Smith and Larry Smith both of Steelville, MO; sister Cindy (Randy) Lewis of Steelville, MO; nephew Thomas (Cara) Lewis of St. James, MO; niece Randi Jean Lewis of Steelville, MO; great niece and nephew Olivia and Jesse Lewis; special cousin Rick (Terri) Livesay of Steelville, MO; many other cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Monday, April 12, 2021 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO. Memorial Service immediately followed at 7:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.  Memorial Service was live-streamed on Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO’s Facebook Page.  The family chose cremation as his final disposition. In lieu of flowers, memorials were suggested to the donor’s choice.
