Janet "Breezy" Chronister Obituary

Janet Sue Chronister, nee White, of Granite City, IL was born on Monday, June 23, 1952 in St. Louis, MO to Benjamin Claude White and Rosetta Esther White (nee Pickett). She passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO at the age 69 years, 10 months and 8 days.

Janet graduated from Granite City High School in Illinois. She attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, IL. She worked for the City of St. Louis and was one of the first people to enter the Arch. She also worked for Wilson’s Sporting Goods in Tennessee, Hoy Shoe in Granite City, IL, Air Mark factory in Highland, IL, and Gold Bond Ice Cream in Florida. Janet, also known as “Breezy,” tended bar at West End Tavern in Steelville, MO as well as the Steelville Country Club. Janet married Charles Melvin Chronister on October 8, 1972 and to this union two children were born. She enjoyed bingo and Yahtzee, which she played every day. She loved Betty Boop. She recently started quilting and made quilts for all of her great grandchildren. She was an avid bowler and bowled on several leagues while her kids were growing up. Most of all, Janet loved her family, grandchildren & great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Rosetta White; brother Harry “Snook” (Wendy) White; sisters-in-law Ebeleen Brasfield, Nila (Ray) Irman, and Sue (Rogers) Burse.

Janet is survived by her daughter Tanya (Brad) Turnbough of Cherryville, MO; brothers Herb White and Benny White (companion, Jodi) both of Granite City, IL and Terry (Roxanne) White of Edwardsville, IL; brother-in-law Darrell Brasfield of Friendship, TN; grandchildren Brian Turnbough of Ft. Myer, VA, Brittany (Preston) Sumpter and Benjamin Turnbough both of Cherryville, MO; great grandchildren Isaiah Sumpter, Malachi Sumpter, and Ava Sumpter all of Cherryville, MO; special niece Rosa White (companion Josh Jonas) of Granite City, IL; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Visitation was from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 07, 2022 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO. Funeral Service immediately followed at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jared Gillam officiating. The family chose cremation as her final disposition.  Pallbearers were Brian Turnbough, Benjamin Turnbough, Justin Turnbough, Dalton Turnbough, Preston Sumpter and Josh Jonas.  Honorary Pallbearers were Isaiah and Malachi Sumpter.
