Jeanne Grayson, nee Hammond, of Steelville, MO was born on Monday, March 5, 1934 in San Antonio, TX to James Hammond and Lucy Lenore Hammond, nee Chapman. She passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023 at Steelville Senior Living at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 28 days.
Jeanne was raised by her mother Lucy Hammond and graduated from Steelville High School in the Class of 1952. Jeanne married the love of her life, Wilber Eugene Grayson on March 17, 1956 in Steelville, MO and to this union three children were born. She had accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was a member of First Baptist Church in Steelville, where she also served as a custodian. Jeanne had worked as a secretary at Boeing in St. Louis, as an EMT for the Steelville Ambulance District and retired from the Missouri Department of Social Services, Family Support Division in Steelville after 28 years. Jeanne enjoyed reading and would go to the library every Saturday. She liked knitting, crocheting, and sewing clothes for her grandkids. She enjoyed gardening her flowers and especially loved her cats; she was known as the neighborhood “cat lady” and was called “Grandma Kitty Kitty” by her grandchildren. Most of all, Jeanne loved her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Wilber Grayson; mother Lucy Hammond; father James Hammond; parents-in-law Ira & Jessie Grayson; brother-in-law Curtis Ray Grayson; son Kevin "Cubby" Grayson; granddaughter Shalanna Harmon and infant granddaughter Kensley Addison Grayson.
Jeanne is survived by her children Keith (Melissa) Grayson of Rolla, MO and Cheryl (Jack) Harmon of Steelville, MO; grandchildren Sherrie (Kyle) Brand, Becky (Scott) Hardin and Elicia Harmon all of Steelville, MO, Alyssa (Jeremy) Pentico of St. Louis, MO, Courtney Sweigard (companion Ben Emmett), Kerrick Grayson and Kirsten Grayson all of Rolla, MO; 12 great grandchildren: Cody Verble, Joe Brand, Austin Hardin, Chase (Amy) Hardin, Candice Rice (companion Marc Johanning), Wyatt Hardin, Mikie Dabbs and MeKenzie Dabbs, Lane Jackson, Lexie Jackson (companion Riley Beel), Kennedy Immekus and Rowen Emmett; 12 great great grandchildren: Ryder Hardin, Aiden Starks, Kash Hardin, Aubree Rice, Gunner Rice, Rylee Rice, Neveah Rice, Brantley Rice, Addilyn Rice, Harper Beel, Hazel Beel and Shalanna Hollis; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Visitation was from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO. Funeral Service was at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Burial was at Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Santana's Hope 4 Paws.
