Jerry E. Payne of Cuba, MO was born on Monday, July 21, 1952, in DeSoto, MO to Homer E. Payne and Nellie Bernice Payne, nee Ferris. He passed away at his residence on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at the age of 70 years, 2 months, and 13 days.
Jerry attended school in Desloge, MO in his early years. He married the love of his life, Donna Kay Dobbs on November 15, 1971, in DeSoto, MO and they celebrated 46 years together until her death. He was an over the road truck driver for many years and later he drove locally for Havin Ready Mix in St. Clair, MO. In 2000 he opened and operated Route 66 Detailing in Cuba, MO until 2005. He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior early in life and attended the First Baptist Church in Sullivan, MO. Jerry enjoyed building villages for his model trains, collecting die cast cars and doing small engine repair. He loved Ford trucks, especially his red Ford F-150. Jerry had a servant’s heart and was always helping his friends and neighbors. He was outgoing and never met a stranger. Most of all, Jerry loved his family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Bernice Payne; his loving wife Donna Kay Payne; brothers-in-law Jim Floyd, Walter Martin, and Dave Dobbs.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Sissy Lynne Johnston of Camdenton, MO; sisters Sheryl Floyd of Plano, TX, Mary (Henry) Harms of Sullivan, MO, and Geraldine Martin of DeSoto, MO; sisters-in-law Linda Courtway of Potosi, MO and Kim Dobbs of Steelville, MO; brother-in-law Larry (Connie) Dobbs of Steelville, MO; nieces Cathy (Dave) Schoonveld and Miranda (Kraig) Ellis both of Bourbon, MO; nephews Jimmy Leach of Springfield, MO, Vince (Misty) Harms of Salem, MO, Jerry (Michelle) Harms of Gerald, MO, Phillip (Yvonne) Harms of Sullivan, MO, Tate Martin of Festus, MO, Timmy Martin, John (Michelle) Martin, and Robby (Crystal) Martin all of Desoto, MO; granddaughter Amber Dawn Morris of Camdenton, MO; Special friends Sandy Simpson, Les Bell and Norma Bell all of Cuba, MO; great grandchildren, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Visitation was from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, MO. Funeral Service immediately followed at 2:00 PM with Pastor Chester Lahmann officiating. Burial was at Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.
