JoAnn (Smith) Orr

JoAnn Orr, nee Smith, of Steelville, MO was born on Wednesday, June 3, 1942 to Charles Dayton Smith and Lera Francis Smith (nee Nagle).  She passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 22 days.

JoAnn was raised in Mississippi and later attended Litchfield High School in Illinois.  She moved to Steelville, MO in 1977 and began working at SanVal.  She attended Rolla Vo-Tech where she received her LPN.  She married Kenneth Raymond Weller, I. on April 4, 1961 in Litchfield, IL and to this union 2 children were born.  She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age, was baptized by Jim Chilton and in later years attended Cherryville Baptist Church.  JoAnn had worked various jobs throughout her life and was a natural caregiver where she put her skills to use at Gibbs Care Center, for the ambulance with Bill Spurgeon, Blue Cross Blue Shield and later retired from Stone Crest Nursing Center in Viburnum, MO.  She had raised registered Tennessee Walking horses.  JoAnn enjoyed gardening and playing on the computer.  She enjoyed being around people and socializing at Spare Rib Inn.  JoAnn would go out of her way to help anyone and always felt, “you can overcome your surroundings.”

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Lera Smith; older sister Martha Sue Sale and great grandson Skylar Glore.

JoAnn is survived by her children Kenneth "Kenny" Weller, II and Tammy (Larry) Brooks both of Steelville, MO; grandchildren JoAnn "Nicole" Weller, Corey (Amy) Brooks and Jennifer (Kevin) Glore all of Steelville, MO, Timothy (Summer) Brooks of Viburnum, MO, Sarah Weller of KY and Torrie Ann Weller of Cedar Hill, MO; great grandchildren Graylen Weller, Alexis Weller, Stephen Harris, Charlie Crocker, Lyric Glore, Liberty Glore, Emelia Glore, Gabe Brooks, Hannah Brooks and Jolene Brooks; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 5:00 PM—7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 7:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.  The family chose cremation as her final disposition.
