Joe D. Midyett

Joe Dale Midyett, of Steelville, MO, was born on Tuesday, September 23, 1947, in St. Louis, MO, to Earl Columbus Midyett and Rosalee Midyett, nee Worley.  He passed away at his home in Steelville, MO, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 13 days.

Joe graduated from Steelville High School in the Class of 1965 and later joined the United States Army Reserve.  Joe married the love of his life, Shelley “Kay” Jones, on December 4th at Pastor Melvin Reed’s home and together had four children.  He worked as a carpenter his entire life, owning and operating his business, “Midyett Construction” and working on his farm “Midyett Farms.”  Joe served on the Steelville R-3 School Board, was a pillar in the community and enjoyed helping others but never seeking recognition.  Joe enjoyed going to the Stockyards in St. Louis, MO, hunting, fishing and gigging.  He liked watching westerns and keeping up with the weather, but most of his time was spent on the farm.  Most of all, Joe loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Rosalee Midyett; parents-in-law, William “Bill” and Virginia Jones; brother-in-law, Randy Lee Jones and sister-in-law, Pam Jones.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Kay Midyett of Steelville, MO; children, Brad Midyett of Cherryville, MO, Danielle (Michael) Retkowski, Aaron Midyett and Elliot Midyett (fiancée Amber Woolfrey) all of Steelville, MO; 12 grandchildren: Gavyn Midyett, Carson Midyett, Thatcher Midyett, Oggy Midyett, Sean Retkowski, Aiden Retkowski, Evan Midyett, Emma Midyett, Josie Midyett, Greyson Midyett, McKenzie Porter and Liam Porter; brother, Jerry (LaDonna) Midyett of Cherryville, MO; brother-in-law, Rick Jones of O’Fallon, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.  Burial was on the family farm, Midyett Family Cemetery, in Steelville, MO with full military honors.
