Johnnie "Jet" Thurmond of Cuba, Missouri was born on Friday, February 6, 1959, in Washington, MO to Johnny Henry and Velma Marie Richards Thurmond and passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, MO at the age of 62 years, 6 months, and 30 days.
He attended high school in Union, MO and married Juanita Elizabeth Mincey on April 5, 1986. During their early marriage, they lived in Union and then moved to Cuba, MO twenty-five years ago. He worked as an automobile mechanic for a while and then delivered furniture for ABC Investment in Cuba, MO for many years.
Jet loved hunting, fishing, camping, and watching wrestling on television. He played the guitar and sang for family gatherings. He loved his family and especially adored spending time with his grandkids. He enjoyed taking care of the farm animals - chickens, goats, guineas, and even fed all the wild animals.
He was preceded in death by his parents Johnny and Velma Thurmond; fathers-in-law Louis Leroy Mincey and Robert Schmittling; and nephew James Dean Thurmond.
He is survived by his loving wife Juanita Thurmond of Cuba, MO; children Johnna (Steven) Ellis of Leasburg, MO, Joseph Thurmond, Juanita Thurmond II both of Cuba, MO, and Susan Thurmond of St. James, MO; sisters Lisa (Joseph) Lefler of Cuba, MO, Brenda Marie (Dale) Krattli of Marshfield, MO, and Robin (Gary) Eickhoff of Owensville, MO; mother-in-law Nellie Ann Schmittling of Wood River, IL; brothers-in-law Glenn (Stacie) Mincey, Curtis Mincey all of Radford, VA, and Eddie (Amy) Mincey of Bethalto, IL; sisters-in-law Jerri Ann (Larry) Richardsons of Edwardsville, IL and Lisa (Greg) Casper of Pawnee, IL; grandchildren Chauntel (James) Williams of Bolivar, MO, Devin Ellis, Avrie Thurmond, Karleigh Thurmond all of Leasburg, MO, Zachary Thurmond, Alexandria "Allie" Wideman and Sammie Dothage all of Cuba, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family has chosen cremation as his final disposition. A private Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later time.
