Joyce Gladine (Halbert) Sutherland

Joyce Gladine Sutherland, nee Halbert, of Steelville, MO was born on Tuesday, March 18, 1941, in Steelville, MO to Carman Lloyd Halbert and Mary Lee Halbert (nee Waller). She passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Cuba Manor in Cuba, MO at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 29 days.

Joyce graduated from Steelville High School. She worked for General Motors until they closed and later for Standard Machine Company in Crestwood, MO. She accepted the Lord in 2007 and was baptized in Dry Creek by Brother Bud Sanders. Joyce loved working with her flowers and hated squirrels that messed with them.  She enjoyed taking care of birds, and listening to bluegrass music. Most of all, Joyce loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Walter and Lily Halbert and Ferd and Bertha Waller; parents Carman and Mary Halbert; brother Carman "Frog" Halbert.

Joyce is survived by her daughters Veneta (Andrew) Wadlow of Granite City, IL, Raye Lynn Sutherland of Doe Run, MO and Kathleen (Chad) Phillips of Milstadt, IL; brothers Roger “Rod” (Lena) Halbert of Cuba, MO and Rodney (Lynn) Halbert of Rolla, MO; sister Joan (John) Summers of Cedar Hill, MO; sister-in-law Wanda Halbert of Steelville, MO; grandchildren Hannah (Jordan) Asbeck of Granite City, IL, Taylor Sutherland of Florissant, MO, Mikayla Hagan and Hallie Hagan both of St. Louis, MO, Randal "Gage" Phillips of Milstadt, IL; great grandson Benjamin Asbeck of Granite City, IL; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

Visitation was from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.  Burial was at Waller Cemetery in Steelville, MO.
