Karen Carroll Obituary

Karen Freda Carroll, nee Shrader, of Cuba, MO, was born on Thursday, August 2, 1951, in St. Louis, MO, to Herman Shrader and Joyce Evelyn Shrader, nee Burgess.  She passed away at her daughter’s home in Jefferson City, MO, on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 24 days.

Karen graduated in the Class of 1970 at Sparta High School in Sparta, IL.  She married the love of her life, Gary Andrew Carroll, on April 16, 1972, at First Baptist Church in Steelville, MO, and to this union four children were born.  They were remarried on June 23, 1995 in Tilden, IL.  She furthered her education by going to Columbia College in Rolla, MO where she obtained a bachelor’s degree, but her most important job and main priority were raising her kids and staying home with her family.  Karen had accepted the Lord and many years ago had attended First Baptist Church in Steelville, MO.  She was a great cook and enjoyed making her family’s favorite meals.  She loved board games such as Scrabble, Monopoly and Yahtzee; she also liked to do puzzles.  Karen especially loved to sew and make quilts.  Most of all, Karen loved her family and spending time with them.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce (husband Homer) Shupe; father Herman Shrader; parents-in-law, Charles Andrew Carroll and Cleo Ilene Carroll, nee Beck; brother, Kenneth Shupe, Sr.; brothers-in-law, Dallas Carroll and Jim (Wilma) Carroll; sisters-in-law, Scharlene (husband Howard) Eggertt and Ilene Sue “Susie” Harmon.

Karen is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Gary Carroll of Cuba, MO; children, Angela Carroll (Jason Scheperle) of Jefferson City, MO, Michael (wife Danielle) Carroll of Chester, IL, Jennifer Carroll of Cuba, MO and Melanie (husband Kevin) Johnson of Helena, AR; brother, Bobby Shrader of Cuba, MO; brothers-in-law, Larry Carroll and Paul Harmon both of Steelville, MO, Shirley Carroll of Cuba, MO, Shirley (husband John) Schuett and Mary Carroll both of St. Louis, MO; 18 grandchildren: Jessica Woodward, Brett Goddard, Britni Goddard, Jerzee McLain, Joseph McLain, Emma Wheat, Jessee Murphy, Brookelynn McLain, Michael Carroll, Jr., Roxie Carroll, Bronx Carroll, Charlie Carroll, Dixie Carroll, Kash Carroll, Payton Reeves, Zayden Carroll, Aliyah Willett and Denzell Johnson; great grandchildren, Ezekiel Woodward, Matilda Woodward, Eli Woodward, Addison Baker, Lilah Wright and baby Ophalia Reeves on the way; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Monday, February 3, 2025 at Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating with military honors to follow.  The family chose cremation as Karen's final disposition.  Memorials were suggested to the funeral home to help with final expenses.
