Kathlyn "Kathy" Gail (Phillips) Neumann

Kathlyn Gail Neumann, nee Phillips of Steelville, MO and formerly of Wauconda, IL, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the age of 73, after a 7-year long battle with kidney disease. 

Kathy was born in Decatur, Illinois in 1951 to Ted Junior Phillips and Shirley Jean Phillips, nee Douglas.  She moved a lot growing up and lived in such places as Dundee, Illinois, Sturtevant, Wisconsin, and Burlington, Iowa before graduating from Wauconda High School in 1969.  She married Stephen Niles Neumann on December 27, 1969 in Wauconda, IL and to this union, 2 children were born.  Kathy and Steve settled in Wauconda, IL to raise their family, before retiring to a beautiful property in Steelville, MO in 2007.  Over the years, they enjoyed many family vacations camping and canoeing together.  Kathy worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for many years at JM Irrigation in Volo, IL and was quite technologically savvy.  An avid reader and genealogy buff, she spent countless hours in libraries and visiting cemeteries to research her family tree (long before ancestry.com). 

She was preceded in death by her parents Ted and Shirley Phillips; parents-in-law Benjamin and Agnes Neumann; brother Doug Phillips; sister-in-law Barbara Neumann; brothers-in-law Ben (Jean) Neumann and Jack (Evelyn) Neumann.

Kathy is survived by her husband of almost 55 years, Stephen Neumann of Steelville, MO; children Rebecca (Edward) Nelson of North Aurora, IL and Dan Neumann (Katie Gallegos) of Portland, ME; two grandchildren, Lydia Nelson and Benjamin “Benji” Neumann; siblings Judy (Allan) Morville and Steve Phillips both of Mt. Zion, IL; brother-in-law Jerry Neumann of Birchwood, WI; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned.  The family will notify loved ones in the future when a memorial is scheduled.
