Kenneth F. Nelson, of Cuba, MO, was born on Tuesday, September 29, 1936 in Licking, MO to Bailey Nelson and Elsie Marie Nelson, nee Jones. He passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 7 days.
Kenneth grew up in Licking, MO and graduated from Licking High School. He worked as a mechanic and traveled the United States as an over the road truck driver, later retiring from Manfredi Trucking. He married Martha L. Licklider on April 26, 2003 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Cuba, MO. He was a hard worker, and enjoyed working on cars or tinkering. He had accepted the Lord as his personal Savior and was a member of Deer Creek Church in Cuba, MO. Kenneth was an avid fisherman, enjoyed riding motorcycles and traveling with his wife Martha. He was a compassionate man, always willing to help others no matter the circumstance. Most of all, Kenneth loved his family and time spent with them. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bailey and Elsie Nelson; wife Martha L. Nelson; parents-in-law Sherman and Dorothy Licklider; sons Kenny F. Nelson, Jr. and Eric Steward; son-in-law Billy Joe Griggs; siblings Bill Nelson, Kathy Steelman, Marvin Nelson, Alma (Hobert) McDonald and Louise Nelson; brothers-in-law Robert Knueven and Jerry Licklider; nieces Patricia Licklider and Becky Sohn.
Kenneth is survived by his loving children, Rebecca Griggs of Anniston, MO and Mark McCallister (companion Laura Gillam) of Steelville, MO; sister Fern Knueven of Salem, MO; sisters-in-law Kathy (Ken) Ahlheim of Sullivan, MO and Joyce (Ron) Sohn of Union, MO; brother-in-law Ronnie Steelman of Salem, MO; 6 grandchildren: Josh Nelson, Chris Rice, Kyle Nelson, Ryan Rice, Kasey Nelson and Dylan Rice; 22 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation is from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 6:00 PM with Pastor Tommy Miller officiating. The family chose cremation as his final disposition and will have a private inurnment at Licklider Cemetery in Cuba, MO at a later date. Memorials may be given to Deer Creek Church - Fishing Tournament for Kids.
