Lanny "Gilbert" Haffer of Cuba, MO was born on Tuesday, September 4, 1951 in Berryman, MO to Claude William Haffer and Marple Leona Beers Haffer. He passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, MO at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 4 days.
Gilbert attended Steelville High School. He played for the Ozark Freeze Baseball Semi-Pro team where he pitched, played 3rd baseman and travelled all over the United States. Gilbert also did enduro racing motocross for Dave Mungenast. He married Kathy Faye Land on September 12, 1974 in Cherryville, MO and to this union a son, Andrew, was born. Gilbert was a truck driver and worked for SMX Trucking out of Des Moines, IA, Sullivan Asphalt Company and lastly with his son at C&B Motors. He was a member of the Laborer’s Union. He was a sports fanatic and loved bowling, baseball, basketball and traveling to watch his granddaughters play. He enjoyed riding his four wheeler and side x side. Gilbert never met a stranger and also enjoyed going to the round table at Spare Rib to drink coffee and talk with the guys. Most of all Gilbert loved his family, especially his granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Marple Haffer; infant brothers Norville Haffer and Merlin Ray Haffer; sister Darlene “Paula” Brewer; sisters-in-law Cleta Haffer and Ruth Haffer; nieces Paula Brewer and Crystal Brewer and nephew Billy Haffer.
Gilbert is survived by his son Andrew (Nadia) Haffer of Cuba, MO; granddaughters Tyra and Jaylen Haffer both of Cuba, MO; brothers Charles “Sonny” (Bonnie) Haffer and Allen “Dale” (Ruby) Haffer both of Steelville, MO, Walter Haffer and Claude “Phillip” (Ruby) Haffer both of Cuba, MO; brother-in-law Keith Brewer of Collinsville, IL; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO. Funeral Service was at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO with Bro. Bill Missey officiating. The service was live-streamed on Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO’s Facebook Page starting at 10:55 AM. Burial was at Haffer Cemetery, Steelville, MO. Memorials were suggested to Haffer Cemetery.
