Larry Smith Obituary

Larry Dean Smith, of Steelville, MO, was born on Tuesday, May 12, 1970, in St. Louis, MO to Harold “Smitty” Junior Smith and Jacquelene “Tootie” Smith, nee Livesay.  He passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, at his home in Steelville, MO, at the age of 56 years and 10 days.

Larry was the kind of person you never forget. A proud graduate of Steelville High School, Class of 1988, he had a heart of gold and cared deeply for his family and friends. He was loyal, kind, and always willing to help others without expecting anything in return.

For eight years, Larry devoted himself to caring for his parents, showing a level of love, patience, and compassion that truly defined who he was. He never sought recognition—he simply put the people he loved first.

Larry found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: fishing, hunting, good music, spending time with close friends, and the companionship of his beloved dog, Hebro. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed the peace that came with it.

More than anything, Larry will be remembered for his big heart and the way he looked out for others. He was the kind of friend everyone wished they had—dependable, genuine, and always there when someone needed him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Smitty and Tootie Smith; brothers, James “Jim/Smitty” Smith and Gary Lee Smith; and grandparents Ralph & Florentine Livesay and Harold, Sr. & Clara Smith.

Larry is survived by his sister, Cindy (husband, Randy) Lewis of Steelville, MO; nephew, Thomas (Cara) Lewis of St. James, MO; niece, Randi Lewis (fiancé, Joe Paintner) of Arnold, MO; great niece and great nephew, Olivia and Jesse Lewis; special friends, Kristina Lambert and Frank Pearman both of Steelville, MO; and countless other special friends and cousins.

A Celebration of Life Service with family and friends will be held at a later date.
