Leatha G. (Brown) Setzer

Leatha G. Setzer, nee Brown, of Cherryville, MO, was born on Monday, July 28, 1947, in Cherryville, MO, to John "Edd" Edward Brown and Nellie Leatha Brown, nee Tallent.  She passed away at Steelville Senior Living on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 27 days.

Leatha was a lifelong resident of Cherryville, MO and graduated from Cherryville High School.  She stayed with her sister, Linda, in St. Louis, MO, for a year and a half while working for an insurance company.  When she returned home, she worked at Fordell Charcoal Plant in Wesco, MO, Brown Shoe Company and SanVal, both in Steelville, MO.  Leatha married the love of her life, Howard Lee Setzer, Sr. on November 24, 1984, in Cherryville, MO, and to this union a daughter, Krystal, was born.  She was a strong woman of faith and church was very important to her.  She liked to cook, play games, garden and she enjoyed going to the race track.  Most of all, Leatha enjoyed time with her family, especially Krystal and her grandbabies.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edd and Nellie Brown; husband, Howard Setzer, Sr.; parents-in-law, Howard and Nina Setzer; siblings, Mabel (Arlis) Callahan, Mary (Dwight) Martin, Edna Brown, Edward “Eddie” Brown and Harry Brown; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold Helms, Gary Sneed, Everett Setzer, Elnora “Orie” (John) La’Ronge, Evelyn Setzer and Verna Setzer.

Leatha is survived by her loving daughter, Krystal (Kevin) McKellips of Steelville, MO; step sons, Howard Setzer, Jr. and Joseph (Debbie) Setzer both of Jefferson City, MO, Timothy (Cindy) Setzer of St. James, MO and Shawn Setzer (Tracy Creech) of Troy, MO; grandchildren, Abigail McKellips and Ethan McKellips both of Steelville, MO; siblings, Linda Helms of Steelville, MO, Allen (Pat) Brown of Cherryville, MO and Rena (Don) Jackson of Cordova, TN; sisters-in-law, Patricia Sneed of Viburnum, MO and Darlene Setzer of Steelville, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.  Funeral Service was at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO, with Rev. Spencer Hutson officiating.  Burial was at Freeman Cemetery in Cherryville, MO.
