Lowell Dean Damewood of Cuba, MO was born on Sunday, February 5, 1939, in Page County, IA to Dell Devir Damewood and Leafy Ellen Damewood, nee Carmichael. He passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 12 days.
Lowell was raised on a farm, where he developed a strong work ethic and lifelong appreciation for hard work. He attended high school in Clarinda, Iowa, where he played football and graduated with the Class of 1957. Following high school, Lowell continued his education at the University of Missouri (Mizzou), earning a degree in Agricultural Business.
On September 5, 1964, Lowell married the love of his life, Carol Ann Kissling, in Webster Groves, Missouri. Together they shared a devoted marriage and raised five children. Their partnership was one built on dedication, teamwork, and mutual respect.
Lowell worked for many years as a newspaper carrier for St. Louis Globe-Democrat, and alongside Carol, he spent much of their married life rehabbing homes and serving as landlords to many faithful tenants. A true hard worker, Lowell considered work not just a responsibility, but a hobby—something he genuinely enjoyed.
His faith was an important part of his life. Lowell accepted the Lord and was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cuba, where he attended regularly and faithfully cared for the church grounds by cutting the grass.
In earlier years, Lowell enjoyed hunting and fishing, finding peace in the outdoors. He also loved to travel. He and Carol spent 20 years RV’ing across the country, seeing its beauty firsthand. Together they also traveled the world, visiting many countries and enjoying cruises. A devoted sports fan, Lowell especially enjoyed watching college football and proudly cheered for Mizzou.
Above all else, Lowell treasured his family. He deeply loved time spent with them and took great pride in being a husband, father, and family man.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Dell and Leafy Damewood; parents-in-law, Raymond and Betty Kissling; brother, Kenneth (Pauline) Damewood; brothers-in-law, Robert “Bob” Hamm and Daniel Smallwood; sister-in-law, Sharon Brockmeier and son, Timothy Damewood.
