Mabel Moutray Obituary

Mabel Lee Moutray, nee Sanders, of Steelville, MO was born on Wednesday, February 19, 1936 in Steelville, MO to Vernon Estel Sanders and Agnes Eunice (nee Dierking) Sanders.  She passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Steelville Senior Living at the age of 86 years and 15 days.

Mabel graduated from Steelville High School in the Class of 1953.  She married Doyle Winston Moutray on August 31, 1957 in Jackson, MS and to this union two children were born.   She worked as a cashier clerk at Rexall Pharmacy in St. Louis, MO.  When her husband retired, they returned to Steelville, MO and she began working for Steelville Drug Store where she handled bookkeeping and billing. She worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 45 years. Mabel accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and was an active member of Straightway Baptist Church.  She helped with VBS, children’s church and enjoyed teaching children.  Mabel enjoyed to read.  She was devoted to her job and a compassionate and generous helper to those in need.   Mabel was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Agnes Sanders; parents-in-law Sylvester and Parthenia May (nee Luck) Moutray; husband Doyle Moutray; sister Jane (Bob) Richardson; sisters-in-law Jean Sanders, Ruth (Avery) Birge, Clara (Bill) Gilmore, Madeline (Bill) West and Gladine Moutray; brothers-in-law Raymond (Aileen) Moutray, Everett (Elsie) (Peggy) Moutray, Harold (Edna) Moutray, Adrian (Mildred) Moutray, Floyd (Marvel) Moutray and Fennel (Margaret) Moutray. 

Mabel is survived by her children Sandy Reed and Dennis Moutray both of Steelville, MO; siblings Alice “Fay” Halbert, Estel (Violet “Sis”) Sanders, Janet Sue Sanders and Thomas “Tom” Sanders all of Steelville, MO; grandchildren Adam Reed and Leah (Vincent) Avvocato both of Steelville, MO; great grandchildren Seth, Carly and Emily Reed all of Steelville, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 12:00 PM with Rev. Alan Miles officiating.  Burial was at Straightway Baptist Cemetery, Steelville, MO.  Memorials are suggested to the Straightway Baptist Cemetery.
