Marilyn J. (Hamilton) Ransom

Marilyn Joyce Ransom, nee Hamilton, of Steelville, MO, was born on Tuesday, September 23, 1941, in St. Louis, MO, to Harry William Hamilton and Emma Mae Hamilton, nee Nash.  She passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at her home in Steelville, MO, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 18 days.

Marilyn graduated from Fairview High School in Jennings with the Class of 1959. That same year, on March 20, 1959, she married the love of her life, Billie Richard Ransom, in Potosi, Missouri. Their union was blessed with a son, Kevin, who was the joy of their lives.

Marilyn and Bill made their home in Florissant, Missouri, where they spent most of their married life. They cherished their weekends in the country, creating memories filled with laughter and the company of family and friends.

A dedicated and hardworking woman, Marilyn began her career as a service representative for Southwestern Bell, where she worked for seven years. She later joined McDonnell Douglas, serving faithfully in the office for thirty years until her retirement.  In 1995, Marilyn and Bill returned to Steelville full-time, embracing the simple pleasures of country living. Together they enjoyed SXS riding, boating, camping, and entertaining. Whatever they did, they did it side by side — a true testament to their deep and enduring bond.  After Bill’s passing in 2012, Marilyn found comfort in the companionship of her friends and family. She especially enjoyed her visits to the Spare Rib Inn, where she socialized, laughed, and found community.  She also gave generously of her time, volunteering at the Steelville Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry, reflecting her caring heart and desire to help others. Marilyn had accepted the Lord as her personal Savior early in life and was a faithful member of Courtois Baptist Church. She cherished her church family and found strength and joy in worship, playing the piano and singing.  Above all, Marilyn treasured time spent with her loved ones. Her family was her greatest blessing and the center of her world.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Emma Hamilton; husband, Bill Ransom; parents-in-law, Dewey and Nora Ransom;  son, Kevin William Ransom; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James (Elaine) Ransom, Ava (Bud) Viehman, Janet Eckert, Lawrence “Murf” Ransom  and Wanda Ransom; special niece, Alisha Ransom.

Marilyn is survived by her special nephew, Chris Ransom of Steelville, MO; special nieces, Erica (Justin) Mincks of Rogersville, MO and Erin (Keegan) Callow of Wentzville, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Steve (Linda) Ransom, Larry Ransom, Jeff Ransom and Steve Eckert all of Steelville, MO, Wanda (Bill) Bogue of Cuba, MO, Pat (Alan) Brown of Cherryville, MO; many  nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.  Celebration of Life immediately followed at 7:00 PM.  Following Marilyn’s wishes, the family chose cremation as her final disposition and later will have an inurnment at Gibbs Cemetery.  Memorials were suggested to Gibbs Cemetery.
