Mary Ruth Haffer, nee Harris, of Cuba, MO, was born on Friday, March 31, 1939 in Cherryville, MO to Emmitt Harris and Eva Missouri (Callahan) Harris. She passed away at Mercy Hospital in Washington, MO on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 29 days.
Mary grew up in Cherryville and attended Cherryville School. She married Garland Gene Collier on June 6, 1959 in Cherryville, MO and to this union five children were born. She later married Walter Lavone Haffer on August 30, 2003 at the Cuba Senior Center. Mary worked for Federal Bag in St. Louis, MO for 20 years until she retired. After moving to Cuba, she served over 8 years on the Board of Directors of the Cuba Senior Center and volunteered many hours there. Mary enjoyed shopping, going to yard sales and if you ask Walter, spending money. She liked to travel with Walter and they had visited over 30 states. She enjoyed going to the races with him as well. Most of all, Mary loved her family and spending time with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents Emmitt and Eva Harris; parents-in-law Esco and Leora (Brown) Collier and Claude and Marple (Beers) Haffer; first husband Garland Collier; children Rodney Collier and Jeanette Collier; siblings Lucille (Glen) Green, Dwight Harris and Frieda (Chris) Fierce; sister-in-law Darlene Brewer; brothers-in-law Gary Green and Jim Warren; grandchildren Russell Scott Collier and Joshua Collier; nephew Billy Haffer.
She is survived by her husband Walter Haffer of Cuba, MO; children Dennis (Linda) Collier of Steelville, MO, Mary Pauline (Scot) Schriefer of Sunset Hills, MO and Russell (Tina) Collier of Cuba, MO; daughter-in-law Tina Marie Collier of Cuba, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Charles “Sonny” (Bonnie) Haffer of Steelville, MO, Dale (Rubey) Haffer of Berryman, MO, Gilbert Haffer, Phillip Haffer and Geraldine (Paul) Turnbough all of Cuba, MO, Keith Brewer of Collinsville, IL, Francis Warren of St. Louis, MO, Melba Martin of Davisville, MO, Maralee (John) Hull of Fenton, MO and Nora Harris Robinson of Leasburg, MO; 16 grandchildren; 34 great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Monday, November 2, 2020 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO. Funeral Service immediately followed at 12:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Burial was at Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, MO. Memorials were suggested to the Cuba Senior Center (206 N Smith St, Cuba, MO 65453).
