Mary Lou grew up in Westover where she attended grade school and graduated from Steelville High School with the Class of 1946.  During high school she played the bass drum, had played the guitar and also the harmonica.  She loved to go dancing and laugh.  She was introduced to Lytle “Junior” England by her cousin, Melba Mullen, whom she later married on December 25, 1946 in Steelville, MO by Uncle Sam Roper and to this union 5 children were born.  Mary Lou was a life-long Crawford County resident, only leaving to live in Arizona for about a year before returning.  She stayed home to raise her kids until they all started school, and then began working at Wayside Inn in 1963 as a cook for 65 cents per hour.  She later went to Brown Shoe, was hired on as the first cook at Gibbs Care Center where she received a degree and worked as a dietary supervisor. Lastly, she cooked at Steelville Schools and was the head cook at the high school until retiring in 1993.  Mary Lou had accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and was a member of the Steelville Presbyterian Church.  She volunteered faithfully with the Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry in Steelville, MO, was a member of the Westover Community Extension Club and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.  Mary Lou loved to go to her grandchildren’s ball games. She enjoyed to sew, garden and cook. Most of all, Mary Lou loved her family and spending time with them.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
