Michael Patrick Retkowski, Sr.

Michael Patrick Retkowski, Sr., of Steelville, MO, was born on Sunday, February 2, 1964, in St. Louis, MO to Donald Charles Retkowski, Sr. and Patricia Ann (Corbett) Retkowski. He passed away at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the age of 56 years, 8 months and 9 days.

Michael attended McCluer North High School in Florissant, MO and then joined the United States Army.  He married Darlene L. Volner on August 15, 2001 in Clayton, MO and loved one another’s children as their own.  Michael worked many years at LMI in Cuba, MO.  He loved music.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.  He was a sports fanatic and rooted for his local teams in Missouri.  Most of all, Michael loved his family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald Sr. and Patricia Retkowski; father-in-law Kenny Volner; brothers-in-law Keith Volner and Terry Volner; sister-in-law Tammy Skiles and grandson Leland J. N. Coombs.

He is survived by his loving wife Darlene Retkowski of Steelville, MO; children Michael (Danielle) Retkowski, Jr., Matthew Retkowski, Christopher Retkowski, Marlenea Coombs and Bobby (Ashley) Link all of Steelville, MO, Linda (Thomas) Mueller of Defiance, MO, Sami (Steve) Holt and Trishia Emrick all of St. James, MO and Nichole (Adam) Gwaltney of Bourbon, MO; siblings Elaine Walker of Tulsa, OK, Donald Retkowski, Jr. of Steelville, MO, Dave Retkowski of St. Louis, MO and Steve (Linda) Retkowski of Lake St. Louis, MO; mother-in-law Mabel Volner of Steelville, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Alvin (Sherryl) White of Farmington, MO, Kenneth "George" (friend Ann) Volner, Jr. of Salem, MO, John Volner and Janet (Glenn) Krieger both of Hollywood, FL, Steven Volner of Cherryville, MO, Martin Volner of Steelville, MO, Chris Volner of Sikeston, MO, Teresa Boivin and Kenny Volner both of Citrus Springs, FL, David Volner of Bismarck, MO and Susanne Medley of Viburnum, MO; grandchildren Sean and Aiden Retkowski of Steelville, MO, Quinton Mueller of Defiance, MO, Steven, Lance, Ian, Jax, Joab and Tessa Holt all of St. James, MO, Haylee and Ethan Coombs of Steelville, MO, Ian Lucas, Emerald Emrick, Alice and Aurora Retkowski all of St. James, MO, Colton and Cole Chandler of Viburnum, MO, Isabel Chandler of Bourbon, MO and Baby Jaxton on the way; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Visitation was from 10:00AM - 12:00PM on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 12:00PM with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.  The family chose cremation as his final disposition.  In lieu of flowers, memorials were suggested to the Crawford County American Cancer Society (Mail to: People's Bank  ATTN: Becky Doyle PO Box H Cuba, MO 65453).
