Michael Wright Obituary

Michael Sellers Wright of Oak Grove, Missouri was born on Friday, June 29, 1951, in Anchorage, Alaska to Jesse Greene Wright and  Merle Sellers Wright.  He passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at his residence at the age of 70 years, 5 months, and 1 day.

He grew up in Anchorage, Alaska.  He graduated from West Anchorage High School, married Cynthia Fiscel in 1969, and to this union three children were born. He also attended the University of Alaska – Anchorage for a while and became a registered land surveyor, later getting his license in Missouri.

Growing up in Alaska helped shape Michael’s love of the outdoors. As a young boy, his father who was an Alaskan homesteader, would put him in his backpack and take him out to check on their traps.  He grew up using snowshoes and dog sleds over snowmobiles.  He learned to hunt Dall sheep, moose, and caribou and to fish for beluga whales and seals.  He became a big game hunting guide and was involved in commercial fishing.

On December 31, 1995, he married the love of his life, Linda Ann Jones, in McKenzie, Alabama. They made their home in Oak Grove, Missouri for over 25 years. Michael was a member of Toastmaster International, a club promoting communication, public speaking, and leadership.  He also attended Safari Club International in Alaska. He was an avid photographer and writer and was in process of writing three books. Michael was also a fabulous storyteller. He never met a stranger and could keep friends, family, and acquaintances entertained for hours with his vast experiences.

As he had accepted Jesus as his personal Savior when he was young, his faith was very important to him.  He and Linda attended Oak Grove Restoration Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ, where he was an ordained Teacher, and he shared his beliefs with all those he met.  He loved his family and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Merle Wright; father-in-law Adolph Jones; and brother-in-law Jean Meller.

He is survived by his loving wife Linda Ann Wright of Oak Grove, Missouri; his children Judith June Wright of Independence, Missouri, Jessica Alice Wright of San Francisco, California, Jacob Isreal Ray (Tabitha) Wright of Odessa, Missouri, Jefferey Earl Talmadge of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Cyndee Sioux Ann Talmadge of Wichita, Kansas; brother Patrick (Geri) Wright of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters Judith  Rebecca Twitchell of Independence, Missouri and Jessie Colleen (Eddy Felker) Meller-Felker of Odessa, Missouri; mother-in-law Joan Jones of McKenzie, Alabama; brother-in-law Kenneth Wade Jones of LaGrange, Georgia; aunt Berna Lou Wright Dallons of Cayucos, California; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
