Michael "Mike" Cox, Sr.

Michael Dale Cox, Sr. of Steelville, MO, was born on Wednesday, September 17, 1958, in St. Louis City, MO to Charles E. Cox and JoAnn R. Underwood.  He passed away peacefully at his home in Steelville, MO, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the age of 66 years, 4 months and 8 days.

Mike was born and raised in St. Louis, MO where he attended school.  He met and married Brenda Finley in 1981, and one son, Michael Cox Jr., was born to this union.  He later met Christine Hotop, whom he shared many years with and also had two daughters, Samantha and Michele Cox.  Mike was an over the road truck driver in his early years, and later owned his own business, “Mikey Likes It Floors”, for several decades.  Mike was known as a skilled craftsman; he drove to the city every day and worked for numerous commercial companies laying floors, painting and doing carpentry jobs.  He loved the country way of life so much that he moved from St. Louis to his property in Steelville.  He loved to float on the river, cut grass, BBQ, make home videos of birthdays/holiday celebrations and listen to classic rock radio.  He enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table and drinking his coffee and spending time with his family; especially his grandkids, great grandson and his beloved dog “Snoop.” 

Mike was preceded in death by his father Charles E. Cox; mother JoAnn (husband Barney) Troutt; brother Johnny Cox; brother-in-law Jerry Ring; and granddaughter Kayla Cox.

Mike is survived by his children Michael (Jamie Williams) Cox, Jr. of St. Charles, MO, Samantha Cox and Michele Cox both of Steelville, MO; grandchildren Michael Dale Cox, III, Jacob Cox, Madison Cox all of St. Charles, MO and JoAnna (husband, Siraj) Ismail of St. Louis, MO;  great grandchild Siraj Ismail of St. Louis, MO; siblings Elizabeth “Betty” Ring of St. John, MO, Barbara Engler of Highland, IL,  Cynthia Revelle of Troy, MO and Charles Cox of St. John, MO; sister-in-law Mary (Colette) Cox of Steelville, MO; 12 nieces and nephews; 14 great nieces and nephews; 3 great great nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO.  Celebration of Life Service immediately followed at 3:00 PM.  The family chose cremation as his final disposition.
