Mildred “Millie” Edith Gahr, nee Johnson, of Steelville, MO was born in Huzzah, MO on Wednesday, June 3, 1925 to Henry Clark Johnson and Ruth Johnson (nee Staples). She passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Steelville Senior Living at the age of 97 years and 5 days.
Millie attended Cherryville High School and was a lifelong resident of Steelville, MO. She married the love of her life, Kenneth Haskel Gahr on October 21, 1951 in Arkansas and together raised their daughter, Rita. She worked as a waitress in her younger years before going to work for Cuba Shoe as a factory worker. Later, Millie and Kenneth owned and operated Bud’s Drive-Inn. She had accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and attended Huzzah Baptist Church. Millie had volunteered at the Meramec Music Theater; she loved visiting and being around people. Millie enjoyed making shell crafts, scrubbers and reading. Most of all, Millie loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, aunt and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ruth Johnson; parents-in-law Charlie Gahr and Wilma Creek; husband Kenneth Gahr; sons-in-law Stanley Seidl and Fred Stulce; siblings Noel (Esther) Johnson, Rodney (Audrey) Johnson, Virginia (Eddie) Bayles, Edna (Frank) Sanders, Venta (Gene) Baker and Johnny (Marilyn) Johnson; brothers-in-law June Gahr and Raymond Gahr; sister-in-law Melba (Jason) Hanson.
Millie is survived by her daughter Rita Stulce of Steelville, MO; sister-in-law Trudy Reed (nee Gahr) of Sullivan, MO; grandchildren Melissa (Ken) Seidl-Kovarsky of Little River, SC, Stanley Seidl and George Seidl both of Steelville, MO; great grandchildren Blaine (Taylor) Meeker of Baker, FL, Tia (Oscar) Ayala of Houston, TX, Preston Kovarsky and Kenzie Kovarsky both of Little River, SC, Daniel Seidl and Alex Seidl both of Steelville, MO; great great granchildren Ila Meeker of Cabot, AR, Scarlett Meeker of Baker, FL, and Lucas Ayala of Houston, TX; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Visitation was from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO. Celebration of Life immediately followed at 7:00 PM with Rev. Spencer Hutson officiating. The family chose cremation as her final disposition.
