Nancy Fields Obituary

Nancy Jane Fields, nee Ayers, of Cuba, MO was born on Wednesday, December 7, 1949, in Baltimore, MD to Avery Newton Ayers, Jr. and Lucille Juanita Ayers, nee Simons. She passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Life Care Center in Sullivan, MO at the age of 74 years, 7 months, and 8 days.

Nancy grew up in the Baltimore, MD area and graduated from Bel Air High in Bel Air, Harford County, Maryland. She worked for the United States Army for 10 years where she met the love of her life, Edward Ray Fields.  They married on March 22, 1969 in Level, MD and to this union one son, Russell, was born.

Nancy and Ed moved to Cuba, MO in 1980.  She worked for Boys Town in St. James, MO for 5 years and then retired from the Department of Mental Health in Rolla, MO after 21 years. Nancy had accepted the Lord early in life and was very active in the Ladies Auxiliary – Women Active for Christ at her church, Cuba Free Will Baptist Church.  She taught Sunday School for many years and loved singing in the choir and singing specials in church services. Her favorite hobby was baking cookies for people and even involved Ed in her cooking endeavors.  Nancy also enjoyed fishing, tending to her flower beds, hanging with the hubby, traveling throughout Missouri and visiting friends and family back east. 

She was preceded in death by her father Avery Ayers; mother Lucille Ayers (Adam) Korba; parents-in-law Russell and Charlyne Fields; brother Avery “Buddy” Newton Ayers, III; brother-in-law Conley DePriest; and sister-in-law Clara Keating.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 54 years Ed Fields of Cuba, MO; son Russ (Bridget) Fields of Poplar Bluff, MO; grandsons Aaron (Margaret) Hurt of Chicago, IL and Austin (Sarah) Hurt of Poplar Bluff, MO; great grandson Oliver Hurt of Poplar Bluff, MO; sister Joan Bond of Dover, DE; special niece Jill Bond of Dover, DE; special nephew Scott (Anne) Mahan of Milford, DE; sister-in-law Linda DePriest of Foristell, MO; brother-in-law Darold Fields of St. James, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, MO. Memorial Service immediately followed at 12:00 PM with Pastor Don Martin officiating. Inurnment was at 2:00 PM at Missouri Veterans Cemetery Ft. Leonard Wood, Waynesville, MO.  Memorials were suggested to Free Will Baptist Church, Cuba, MO,
