Nancy E. Umfress, nee Copling, was born on Wednesday, June 22, 1949, to Robert Copling and Christena Copling, nee Reiner, in Sullivan, Missouri. She entered into Heaven peacefully at her home in Cuba, Missouri on Monday, May 1, 2023, at the age of 73 years, 10 months, and 9 days.
Nancy attended Cuba schools growing up and graduated from Cuba High School in 1967. She was united in marriage to James “Jim” Umfress, Sr. on June 30, 1967 at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Leasburg, Missouri and to this union 3 sons, Jimmy, Travis, and Robbie, were born.
Nancy graduated from the nursing program at Rolla Technical Institute and became an LPN. She was employed at Sullivan Hospital and as an Office Manager for Dr. Fitzgerald for many years until her retirement.
She loved tending to her flowers, doing crafts, playing the piano, and just enjoying life. She had accepted the Lord as her Savior and attended church at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in her younger years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Cuba, Missouri during her later years. She attended when her health would let her. She was one of the biggest encouragers when Jim was called to the preaching ministry in 2005. She enjoyed her life, loved the Lord, and adored spending time with her family. Nancy was a fighter. After losing their son, daughter-in-law, and grandson in a car accident, surviving a house fire, dealing with health issues and whatever else life threw at her, she still had the determination and a strong will to keep going. She will most definitely be missed by her family and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Christena Copling; son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, Jimmy, Cathy, and Chad Umfress; parents-in-law William R.B. and Virginia Umfress.
